Far Cry: Instincts - Predator

Even if you have already played Instincts on the Xbox I can’t encourage you enough to check out the 360 version of Far Cry. The graphical improvements are simply outstanding, especially on an HDTV, and easily approach the quality of the original PC game. The new Evolutions chapter is a short thrill ride that probably wouldn’t fly as a standalone product (even though it is standalone on the Xbox), but as an added bonus for 360 gamers, it’s just icing on the cake.

In summing up Far Cry: Instincts Predator on the Xbox 360 is a huge package in terms of what you have to play through. Not only do you have two separate storylines to play through but you also have a much larger choice on Xbox LIVE Multiplayer. That then coupled with the Map Editor, will certainly keep you busy for a wee while. The overall package has its problems as I have mentioned previously, what with the Instincts story line being what we have seen before, but without doubt, you are getting a huge amount of content to get stuck into and makes this a damn fine game to own, and certainly worthy of your time.

A new shiny white next generation console and there are opportunities galore to pump it full of shiny new franchises, of course there’s also the opportunity to give the console some old franchises with advanced graphics and better design. Enter the new Far Cry, UbiSoft have pimped this game rather well and I was curious to see how the 360 version of a Games Xtreme 9.0 game held up to the Xbox counterpart.

Far Cry Instincts: Predator is a great FPS that's well worth a purchase if you haven't played the original Far Cry Instincts. If you have played the original Far Cry Instincts (and still have access to your Xbox) you may want to opt for the Xbox version of Far Cry Instincts: Evolution because it's cheaper and you can jump straight into the new story. Those who haven't access to an Xbox or who haven't played Far Cry Instincts will enjoy Predator though, because although the game hasn't had much of a graphical facelift the game itself is still very impressive and feels sufficiently different from the other FPS games you will have already played on the Xbox 360.

The Xbox 360's in the midst of a maelstrom of big releases. Over the last couple of weeks gamers have been able to dig into such delectable titles as Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Now it's Far Cry's turn to take center stage. Many may fondly remember this game from its PC release in 2004, or the excellent 2005 Xbox iteration, Far Cry Instincts. In all its forms, Far Cry has so far done little wrong. Unfortunately, Far Cry Instincts Predator doesn't quite live up to the pedigree. While the game's still fun to play, there's little offered here in the way of new content.

Jack Carver had taken care of everything. His own boat and buisness, now and then a costumer to sail alongside the islands, sun and sea, beach and especially doing nothing while toerists tire themselves with deep-sea diving and taking pictures. But a game hero had to know better. His last trip, with indeed a very handsome photographer, becomes chaotic when mercenaries blow up his ship.

Released on the PC a while back, Far Cry was a surprisingly competent shooter that put gamers on an island filled with trigger-happy mercenaries and mutated enemies that savagely rip apart anyone that comes close to them. Luckily, Xbox owners got the chance to play the game last year when Far Cry Instincts was released. Not only did it make the transition from PC to console perfectly but it was an excellent first-person shooter. Now that the Xbox 360 is out, Far Cry Instincts Predator is unleashed and while there is new content to play through, it isn’t very different from the Xbox original.

Far Cry Instincts Predator isn't the best FPS experience on the Xbox 360, but it certainly shouldn't be overlooked. The game will take about ten to twelve hours for the first storyline and another 6 to 8 for the second single player scenario on the medium level of difficulty. Add in countless hours attempting to dominate your Xbox Live friends and Far Cry may become a staple in your Xbox 360 library. I recommend this game to anyone who hasn't played the original on the first Xbox at around a purchase price of $40 to $50. Others may want to pick it up for the awesome multiplayer when the price drops to the $30 range. FPS fans or those looking for an interesting adventure tale should consider picking up Far Cry Instincts Predator.

Having a bad day, Mr. Carver? Well, gee, of course you are. I mean, here you sit on your little boat, trying to put your military days behind you as you perform a little task for a reporter, and next thing you know, you're up to your ass in all sorts of mercenary action, with strange military forces lurking about and a serum that's been injected into your bloodstream that makes you more ravenous and animal-like than ever before. This was the back story when Far Cry Instincts arrived for the Xbox last year, and it still manages to hold true in its Xbox 360 successor, Far Cry Instincts Predator, which is still the same wily animal it's always been, even though it seems to be on a leash in a couple of areas.

Far Cry Instincts was one of the best games released on the Xbox last year. It was also one of the most demanding, and you could easily tell that the Xbox was being pushed to its limits. Unfortunately, Xbox 360 owners looking to run the game on their next-generation consoles haven't had any luck; the game isn't currently backward compatible with the Xbox 360. Enter Far Cry Instincts Predator, a convoluted name for what is essentially an Xbox 360 version of Far Cry Instincts, along with a new campaign and enhanced multiplayer support.

The first Xbox 360 title in the Far Cry franchise is a great game that's severely held back by its slightly dated graphics in places and occasional frame rate hiccups. If you were thinking of buying it for the new improved water and graphics then please stay well clear. However, if you've not played the original Xbox version then Far Cry instincts: Predator is definitely worth a look. It's a solid and fun game with enough action to satisfy any first person shooter fan.

The tropical islands of Far Cry Instincts: Predator are a lot like some days at the beach. At first it's a refreshing change from the day-to-day norm of the typical pitch-black corridor-crawls that most first-person shooters subject you to. Eventually, though, you end up sunburned with sand in your shorts, ruing the notion of ever coming to the beach in the first place.

Sammantaget är det faktiskt multiplayer-stödet och faktumet att det är två spel till priset av ett som räddar Far Cry Instincts Predator och gör det köpvärt. Spelet i övrigt är långt ifrån perfekt och har som sagt problem med både bandesign, grafik och den artificiella intelligensen. Nu känns det ändå tillräckligt välfyllt för att motivera fullpris och faktumet är att det märkligt nog hittills är den bästa förstapersonsskjutaren till Xbox 360.

Xbox Far Cry Instincts was a very popular game at Gamecell last year and the new chapter included with this 360 port does a good job of extending the franchise’s life without actually evolving all that much. More of the same but still different enough to merit a purchase, even with annoyingly tricky aiming the game plays fluidly, manages to be engaging and fun, and even squeezes in a revengeful climax. If you liked Instincts and have sold your Xbox then you really can’t miss Jack Carver’s second outing and need to get this, if you still have your Xbox then I’d recommend buying the Evolution standalone datadisk – it might not be as pretty but it plays better.

Despite launching with a 'bargain' price for a 360 game, Predator does have a lot to offer. The fact that what it's offering is pretty mediocre for the most part does sour the deal some. If you're looking for a decent single player campaign with a somewhat original story, Predator is worth at least a rent. Achievement whores be warned though, the multiplayer achievements will take you a while and you'll have to play both campaigns no less than four times to get a full 1000 GS points.

Far Cry is like a car with a new coat of paint and a nice 19' set of rims. Nothing news, it just runs a little smoother. The evolution add-on missions don't really make it worth the investment of another $60. It is a little hard to recommend this version of Far Cry if you already own the original, but if you haven't heard of Far Cry it's defiantly worth a look. Far Cry fans you'll just have to hope Far Cry 2 isn't too far away.

Far Cry Instincts: Predator isn’t the most impressive looking or playing game in the Xbox 360 library. The relatively large levels still suffer from the same level of pop in found on the old Xbox version, and some of the textures are downright ugly. That said, if you’re looking for a solid multiplayer game, and love to tinker around with map editors – especially when you can show off your handiwork to other players – you can’t go wrong with Predator.

Att spela skjutspel med handkontroll ställer stora krav på en väl anpassad spelkontroll och att spela Far Cry Instincts: Predator är som att spela innebandy med ishockeyhandskar. Medan du försöker få siktet att hamna där du vill springer fienderna i cirklar runt dig och skjuter dig genom lövverket, för de ser nämligen rakt igenom. Det här är ett raskt ihopkrafsat snålspel som inte är färdigt på långa vägar och det lyckas inte ens bättre än Perfect Dark Zero, för Joanna Dark var i alla fall fin att titta på. Jack Carver däremot är bara gammal, svettig och redo för pension.

There are frequent framerate hiccups, and once I even found myself stuck in the scenery! The only thing that saves Predator is the four-player split-screen mode, which is far more respectable than the story modes. I like how the numerous maps are rated by "number of players" so you don't need to worry about selecting a location that's too big or too small. Far Cry Instincts Predator is clearly a case of a developer "mailing it in", and fans of the Xbox game will not be amused. It's too bad, because the tropical locales and bongo music make this ideal for summer gaming.
