The only similarity Ferrari Formula One has with Pole Position is that it's a car driving game. At heart it's a pure simulation and as a result it probably won't find favour with arcade game players, but simulation fans should lap it up. The game has gone a long way towards recreating the atmosphere of Grand Prix racing and as a result it's undoubtedly the most realistic yet. Ferrari Formula One is a masterpiece of a program which no Amiga owner should be without.

AmigaAmiga Action
Start at the Ferrari test track at Fiorano by tuning the engine of your car, and testing the aerodynamics in the wind tunnel, before getting behind the steering wheel and racing on 16 of the fastest tracks in the world.

FF1 has more than any other racing game. The only thing that comes close is Revs, and this is a lot more fun and a lot less hassle to play.

It is difficult to think of anything that has actually been omitted from this simulation and that in a curious way could be the game's undoing. Superb though the simulation is (and there is no denying that), anyone without a passionate interest in motor racing might find that they are happier with just an ordinary run of the mill racing game.

Atari STThe Games Machine (UK)
Although basically similar to the original Amiga version, ST Formula One is too little, too late. When comparing against such releases as Test Drive II and The Cycles, Electronic Arts' team is sadly left in the pits fiddling with their air wrenches.

Commodore 64ACE (Advanced Computer Entertainment)
For a supposedly fast action sport, this game makes Formula One racing look about as exciting as a wet Sunday afternoon spent visiting your deaf Aunt Mildred. The graphics are horrendous and the road update is outrageously slow. If you don't have a disk drive you'll have to put up with a hideous loading system as well. Totally unenjoyable.
