FIFA 2000: Major League Soccer

You'll need a hard-core machine to run this one well, but that's the only downside to an amazingly detailed, action-packed game.

Much of this review could have been written of FIFA 99. And we'll doubtless come in for criticism from some quarters for giving it yet another five star score. But while FIFA 2000 covers a lot of the same ground as its predecessors, it's still an essential purchase - there's simply no denying its classic status once again.

FIFA 2000 positively drips with authentic footballing atmosphere and if you add in a few mates and some assorted gamepads, you'll realise that this is one of the most addictive footballing experiences ever. FIFA 2000 is involving, compulsive and highly frustrating - just like the real thing! It offers a highly realistic, visually stunning and immensely satisfying game of football. You may own every game in the FIFA series prior to this one but believe me, you will positively kick yourself if you miss it.

It's almost as if FIFA 2000 were EA Sport's attempt to Americanize soccer. Banking on the success of the US Women's World Cup Team by including Foudy, replacing favorite Motson with American commentator Schoen, and introducing the MLS teams, FIFA 2000 is the most US-friendly version of FIFA to hit shelves. This gives FIFA 2000 an entirely different feel than previous versions of the series, but it still delivers everything you've come to expect from FIFA. FIFA 2000 is more than just better than last year's game, it is easily the best soccer game ever to grace the PlayStation.

FIFA 2000 kommer garanterat att sälja bra. Electronic Arts är till och med så självsäkra att de inte ens besvärar sig med att göra en version till Nintendo 64. Frågan är om de Nintendo-ägare som varit serien trogna därmed kommer att sluta att spela FIFA-spelen och hitta nya favoriter. Förmodligen inte. Det är nog mer troligt att uthyrningen av PlayStation ökar.

I am normally the biggest critic of these yearly sporting updates which are churned out simply to squeeze more money from the average punter. However I do believe that 2000 is probably the best FIFA soccer game to date. Of course that statement may only last until FIFA 2001 turns up next year. I suppose what you really want to know is that should you already own last years version is there enough improvement to warrant a further investment? Graphically... yes! Gameplay wise... it's more of the same! Regardless, it will sell by the droves and one thing's for sure, there will be another next year... and the next... and the next...

Ich hätt's nicht für möglich gehalten. Erstmals schlägt ein FIFA-Produkt das NHL-Pendant. FIFA 2000 sieht besser aus als NHL 2000, die Steuerung ist einfacher und gleichzeitig komplexer, die Gewichtung der einzelnen Spieler gelungen und die Atmospähre löblich. Gemeckert werden muss dennoch: Die Ergebnisse sind teils viel zu hoch, das Gesabbel vom ollen Dahlmann nervt und die Gesichter der Kicker sind nicht zu erkennen.

While there is some room for improvement, FIFA 2000 delivers on almost every front and is a fast-paced, enjoyable, and challenging soccer game with numerous options and lots of depth. Though you may find yourself wishing FIFA 2000 offered even more, it is ultimately a must for any soccer fan.

Gute Nachrichten habe ich zuhauf zu vermelden. Langfristig am wichtigsten ist sicherlich der endlich hammerhart einstellbare Schwierigkeitsgrad. Der Pfeil sorgt für ein gepflegtes Pass-Spiel. Die Abwehrspieler sind endlich in der Lage, ein Anspiel zu verhindern indem sie sich vor den Stürmern bewegen. Nur bei den Eckbällen decken sie ihre Gegner nicht konsequent genug, fast schon traditionell lassen sich so viele Tore schießen. Wie ich es von EA Sports gewohnt bin, ist die Präsentation auf höchstem Niveau, von den geschmeidigen Animationen, über die fantastische Grafik, bis zum fetzigen Sound. Einziger echter Kritkpunkt bleibt das immer noch populäre Herumgegrätsche.

Para quem jogou a FIFA 99, esta nova versão não trará nada de muito surpreendente. Mas se for uma verdadeiro apreciador de futebol e da série FIFA, com certeza não quererá desperdiçar a oportunidade de jogar ao melhor jogo de futebol da actualidade (e de sempre?). É caso para dizer: "It's in the game!".

Au final, FIFA 2000 est le digne successeur de la série qui a tout écrasé sur son passage. Plus beau, plus jouable et plus complet, tout a été retravaillé pour fournir le meilleur de la PlayStation. En attendant la réplique de Konami avec son ISS, FIFA 2000 est clairement le meilleur jeu de foot du moment.

Fifa 2000, c'est le meilleur jeu de foot pour PC à l'heure actuelle, de loin ; il est d'ailleurs probable qu'il conserve ce statut pour un petit bout de temps. Tout a été encore amélioré par rapport à la version 99, sans exception. Le résultat est suffocant ! EA Sports fait preuve une nouvelle fois de génie et de talent, de passion et de rigueur. Que nous réservent-ils alors pour demain ? Vous voici prévenus : à consommer de préférence avant fin 2000 ! ;o)

Prachtige verzorgde graphics, enkele kleine maar goede aanpassingen en de opvallend goede speelbaarheid laten deze versie met kop en schouders boven de concurrenten uitsteken. Zelfs op de minder krachtige PC's.

På den negativa sidan märks väl framförallt att det egentligen inte är särskilt stor skillnad mellan det här och föregångaren. Jag kan inte direkt peka på vad som skulle behöva förbättras, för grafiken går inte av för hackor, och spelkänslan finns helt klart där. Trots att spelet är lite tuffare nu, finns det ändå gott om likheter med 99:an. Musiken passar inte heller mig, men det kanske är mig det är fel på. Fel är det också på introt, i alla fall på så sätt att det inte är lika imponerande som i kusinen som utspelar sig på is. Det är inget man tappar hakan över, om ni förstår vad jag menar. Hur som helst är det här ett riktigt bra spel. Behöver ni en tydligare köpsignal än så?

Schon erstaunlich, wie es EA Sports trotz der Mängel und nerviger Details (Stichwort: Kopfballstärke des Computers) geschafft hat, ein derart faszinierendes Sportspektakel auf die Beine zu stellen. Gut, allzuviel hat sich gegenüber der 99er Version nicht geändert; ein paar Dinge wie die Angriffstaktiken wurden sogar kurzerhand gestrichen. Doch nirgendwo wird Fußball am Bildschirm so zum Erlebnis wie bei Fifa 2000.

Oh, dus je hebt FIFA 99 al? So what! Die van 2000 kent weer voldoende verbeteringen, updates en andere aanpassingen om 'm zeker te checken. Het begint de realiteit in ieder geval aardig te benaderen.

Fifa 2000 is ongetwijfeld het beste voetbalspel dat er momenteel op PC verkrijgbaar is en dat op zich is al voldoende om het weer aan te schaffen. Toch had ik eerlijk gezegd nog iets meer verwacht dan wat het nu geworden is. Wie weet, misschien doen ze het wel met opzet! Anders heeft het toch geen zin meer om Fifa 2001 te maken!

Напоследок хочется сказать, что, несмотря на заметную сыроватость, игра все равно замечательна. Улучшения в части играбельности и игровой графики, отличное звуковое и музыкальное сопровождение + множество интересных функций наверняка сделают FIFA2000 кумиром футбольных игроманов на весь следующий сезон. Патчи от EASports и самостоятельных авторов смогут подправить некоторые особенно явные недоделки вроде шероховатости составов, а чемпионаты по сетевым и модемным играм еще сильнее привлекут геймеров к этой игре. Все только начинается!

The game could have been a modest success, as it has scores of teams to choose from, a bevy of options, and even an indoor soccer game that plays ten times faster than the regular form. But undercutting all of these features and ultimately sinking FIFA 2000 is poor control that makes the game harder to control than it needs to be.
