Premiere passing and tough tackling systems highlight the NINTENDO GAMECUBE debut of the world's top-selling sports series, set to land in stores this fall.
The smart new Nintendo GameCube Controller gives you incredibly subtle authority over the on-pitch action. Shrewd use of the analog A, B and X buttons allows you to power-up passes, lobs and shots, respectively. Quickly jabbing the Y Button gives you a burst of speed for breakaways.
The C-Stick enables one-twos, while holding down the L and R buttons allows you to curl a ball around a defender.
FIFA Soccer 2002 comes laden with 16 leagues, more than 500 teams and 10 tournaments.
Season mode features the following leagues: Austrian max. Bundesliga, Belgian League, Danish Superligaen, English Premiership, French Division 1, German Bundesliga, Israeli Premier League, Italian League, K-League, MLS, Norwegian Tippeligaen, Scottish Premier League, Spanish Primera Division, Swedish Allsvenskan, Swiss Nationalliga A. Brazilian League teams are available only in Friendly matches.
FIFA Soccer 2002 also includes a smattering of pro teams from Greece, the Czech Republic, Poland, Portugal and elsewhere.
FIFA World Cup Qualification mode features dozens of contending squads from the AFC, CONCACEF, CONMEBOL and UEFA regions. Other national teams include Nigeria, Australia and South Africa.
Qualifying for the World Cup in a zone may unlock hidden modes and cheats. For example, at game's start you can sim two European tournaments: EFA Trophy and European Champions' Cup. Additional tournaments must be unlocked.
You can opt for any formation from a 4-3-3 to a 5-4-1 with various forward, midfield and defense configurations as well as varying degrees of aggressiveness. You have a choice of three attacking styles: possession, counterattack and neutral; and three defending styles: pressure, withdrawn and contain. You can specify starting lineups, substitute players and designate kick-takers. Players may be sold within a league.
The many options include three difficulty levels, four game speeds, offside rule on or off, injuries on or off, multiple camera angles and adjusting the mix of sound effects, music and Andy Gray and John Motson's quite-often witty commentary. You can tweak the AI to give you or less assistance.
Now available, FIFA Soccer 2002 is rated "E" (for Everyone) by the independent Entertainment Software Rating Board. The Memory Card 59, sold separately, is required to save game progress. Twenty-nine blocks are required.
