FIFA Soccer 2003 is such a tremendous effort that any gripes about features can be forgiven. This is a high watermark for the series that warrants an immediate purchase.

FIFA Soccer 2003 has been totally revamped from the ground up, and it shows. Great graphics and the best gameplay the series has seen in years make this a must-have sports game.

FIFA Soccer 2003 is a terrific game that will delight soccer/football fans while creating a challenging and entertaining sports atmosphere. This game is the best of the FIFA series, and while not perfect, is certainly another step in that direction.
93
GameCubeGameZone
This is a terrific game on this platform. EASports has nailed virtually every aspect of this game. The AI may not be as tough or evolving as it could be (teams tend to hang back rather than play for the offsides against aggressive offenses), but that aside, this game is a wonderful soccer game.

WindowsGameSpot
With FIFA 2003, EA Sports has proven it will finally take a few risks by varying the formula behind the world's number one soccer game. In so doing, it has produced a considerably more challenging and complex affair that should stand the test of time better than its predecessors. It isn't quite perfect, but the latest FIFA game is a refreshing and compelling step ahead in a series that's known for its quality.

So the game play might not be quite as deep as Konami's sequel, but this is a very fine effort indeed, presented in a far more user-friendly fashion, with greater options, and realistic teams and players. What's more, the visuals are absolutely stunning, bringing the look of a real soccer match to vivid life. Slowly but surely, FIFA is certainly progressing. See you next year.

This year’s fifa is a game that is also suitable for the non fifa fans. Honestly the best soccer game I’ve played in years and better than TiF2003 in my opinion.

XboxGameZone
FIFA Soccer 2003 is one of the purest and realistic sports simulations out there. Soccer fans will go absolutely nuts over this year’s FIFA edition because of its authenticity, sheer number of teams, and amazing gameplay. Those not so into the sport may find the game a bit frustrating and uninteresting because of the low scoring and intense strategizing necessary to win. This game comes highly recommended for soccer fans and gamers who still regularly play FIFA 2002, but only moderately recommended for those whose copy of FIFA 2002 is simply collecting dust.

The playing field itself is textured nicely, but not as good as I hoped for it to be. Though, if there is one thing that really impressed me with the GameCube version of Fifa 2003, it would have to be the flares that light up in the stands. These flares really add to the atmosphere of the game, something which, from my past experience, cannot be found in the Playstation 2 version of Fifa 2003. Overall, Fifa 2003 is a good looking game of soccer, though there are some unfortunate drawbacks, such as the framerate stuttering in a few rare instances, but when looking at the big picture you ignore these drawbacks.

GameCubeGameSpot
FIFA 2003 is the best soccer simulation on the GameCube to date. The game's speed and gameplay mechanics encourage you to play a realistic game of soccer, which may turn off those looking for a faster-paced game. It's worth noting that FIFA 2003 includes an arcade option that you can select before jumping into a game, but you still have to make use of a fair amount of strategy to score. Either way, no soccer fan should hesitate to buy FIFA 2003.

XboxGameSpot
Soccer fans really can't go wrong with FIFA 2003. The gameplay is excellent and probably comes closer to mimicking the actual sport than any other soccer game currently available on the Xbox. Of course, the simulation aspects may turn off those looking for a faster-paced game, and even the game's arcade mode, which features a faster-paced game with fewer rules, requires some strategy and punishes haphazard play. Still, anyone craving for realistic soccer action should definitely pick up FIFA 2003.
86
PlayStation 2GameSpot
FIFA 2003 for the PlayStation 2 is probably the most accurate representation of professional soccer to date, which might intimidate more-casual fans of the sport. While the game does feature an arcade mode in which the speed is turned up and most of the rules aren't enforced, the same basic strategies that you would use in the simulation option still apply. In any case, if you're looking for the best simulation of professional soccer to date, then you needn't look further than FIFA 2003.

Even with its few shortcomings, and even if you own every other edition of FIFA Soccer, it's just tough not to recommend this one. There's so much fun to be had in such a realistic game in a great package that even non-soccer fans would be hard-pressed to complain too much.

WindowsActionTrip
Overall, FIFA 2003 doesn't bring many novelties over its predecessors - no radical changes have been introduced. As I said, the gameplay might even seem retro at times. Still, the introduction of more intuitive controls and the emphasis on fancy dribbling and short passes might bring some of that Latin American flare to the game that was definitely absent from FIFA 2002. It's all a matter of tastes really, if you're going like the new gameplay style or not.

XboxIGN
There are still major holes like an underutilized Freestyle Control system, no non-competitive game modes and a lack of customization features (no create-an-anything or weather/time of day control) holding FIFA back from being the definitive soccer game. With virtually no competition, until one of Konami's fine soccer games makes it to Xbox in North America I have to recommend this soccer game for sports gamers looking for another non-stop end to end game.

GameCubeIGN
After capitalizing on this summer's World Cup fever with 2002 FIFA World Cup, EA is once again back on GameCube with the true sequel to last year's FIFA 2002. More than just a graphical and roster update, EA's third GameCube soccer game arrives with more modes, more leagues, and completely "remixed" controls. Along with better ball physics and a new C Stick control system, FIFA Soccer 2003 brings with it thousands of real players and hundreds of international and club teams -- but there a few issues here and there that left us wishing a regular FIFA game and the World Cup edition could somehow merge into one, all-powerful soccer title.
83
PlayStation 2IGN
In my opinion FIFA 2003 fixed things in 2002 World Cup that weren't necessarily problems. Nonetheless FIFA 2003 is a fine soccer game and should grab everybody's attention on its own merits because it does capture even more of what makes pro soccer so appealing. That's every sports videogame's job. If you didn't fall for the World Cup edition this past summer or if you can put that game's feel and control out of your mind, then you'll find FIFA 2003 to be worth the trouble of leaning a new system.
82
PlayStation 2GameZone
In FIFA 2003 it's possible to play customizable competitions, leagues, etc, with up to eight players using a multi-tap, which can be a lot of fun. It's disappointing that there's no online support in this PS2 version though.

PlayStation 2Gameplanet
All we can say to EA Sports about this year's edition of FIFA Soccer is well done. While the right-stick control system still needs some work, and there are some minor graphical flaws (we are being picky), FIFA Soccer 2003 is definitely one of the best soccer titles to grace the PS2 to date. While it's better overall than This is Soccer 2003, TIF2003 allows more overall control over your players, unlike FIFA's "assisting" AI which can sometimes be a pain if a player isn't doing exactly what you want him to do. That aside though, we highly recommend FIFA Soccer 2003 to all fans of the sport.

This game can entertain for hours alone, but shines even more when you put yoruself up against a friend/flatmate/co-worker. The inane pleasure of side-stepping his/her defense, booting the ball directly into the goal-keepers face and scoring off the rebound. All in all a much better football game than EA Sports have ever released and may be in the running to be the best soccer game of 2002/2003. Well, that is until the next FIFA game.

XboxGameSpy
FIFA 2003 has just about everything a soccer fan could ask for, except a world cup mode. There's great gameplay, tons of options, detailed player stats, trading, graphics, and sound. With the hopeful addition of online gaming, there's not too much more to ask for. FIFA 2003 is a wonderful soccer game that even football fans will like.
75
74
WindowsGameSpy
FIFA 2003 is a step in the right direction. The physics and graphics are better than they've ever been, but the AI, lack of features, and out-to-lunch rosters make it tough to globally recommend. If multiplayer soccer is your forte, then FIFA fits the bill perfectly, but if you're playing against the computer, games are repetitious and highly predictable … you may just want to wait until next year.
70
WindowsIGN
Glitches aside, FIFA 2003 is a fun footy game. Most of the changes from the last version are cosmetic, so if you are happy with the World Cup version then stick with that. Maybe one day EA will bite the bullet and realize that if they combine everything into one killer game once a year (World Cup, Club sides, European Tourneys etc) they will have a bunch of very happy customers.
70
PlayStation 2GameSpy
You have to give EA Canada credit for trying to improve a series that is basically dominating the competition. The improvements in the gameplay department went a long way towards making this the most realistic footie game to ever grace a next-generation console. Once again, EA has proven that they are the "gold standard" for sports games.
62
PlayStation 2Playstation Illustrated
... the overall shoddy control, the delay in button presses, and the ridiculous load times (including in-game load times), the game is nothing more than a second-rate sports title with great eye candy. I'm sure that FIFA Soccer 2003 will appeal to a lot of people, but passive fans (like me) should probably avoid this title. Definitely rent it before mindlessly dropping your hard-earned cash on it.
60
WindowsJoystick
60
GameCubeGameCell UK
With practice (all of which has to be done during matches as there's no practice mode in which to learn the new controls) you will manage to string some passes together and create some decent moves, but it's never as slick or instinctive as certain other football games. Sadly for GameCube owners, they're on other consoles and as such this is the best football game game available on the Nintendo machine…
