Fighter's History's solid control and exciting gameplay make up for it's lack of originality - you'll feel like you've seen this game at least once before. And while it isn't the best fighting game around, it's new moves and characters make it worth a look, especially if you've played the others to death (no pun intended...).

I can see why Capcom wanted to slap a lawsuit on Date East for Fighter's History so-called resemblance to Street Fighter II - FH is a great game! Luckily, the judge saw fit to throw the case out of court and now gamers can enjoy this solid fighting challenge. Recommended for novice gamers or - set on the high difficulty - giving fighting game veterans a run for their money.
Fighter's History is a decent clone of SF II, but somewhere along the way, Data East missed a gene or two. This game is a historic piece of rental material.

While I typically don't drool on most fighting games, Fighter's History has some strong points. The control, for instance, is top-notch. There aren't many fighting games where I can actually do a special move when I really want to, yet with this one I can. The addition of weak points on the characters are great! Fighter's History definitely worth a look if you want something new in the fighting game genre.

Looking back all these years later, it's hard to where exactly Capcom was coming from. Sure some of the character designs are a bit close, but I've played a lot worse in my day. As it is, this is a nice fighter that entry level players will enjoy, but die-hards will undoubtedly move on to bigger and better games. The games sequel, Fighters History Dynamite/Karnovs Revenge (US title) is marginally better and can be found on the Neo Geo. It's not perfect, but it's a look back to when this genre flourished and innovation was not important.

Too easy, you'll clock this on your first day and there's no impulse to rush back to it.
Though Fighter’s History is surprisingly good in terms of depth of gameplay and strategy, it definitely gives reason to be labeled as nothing more than a clone lost in a sea of clones. While games like Samurai Shodown and King of Fighters took the formula Street Fighter set the standard on and improved on it, there is nothing redeeming about Fighter’s History to warrant checking it out aside from curiosity. A sequel was released a couple of years later that improved the gameplay as well as the graphics and is touted as being much better than this game, but that’s another review altogether. There have definitely been better clones made, but Fighter’s History definitely isn’t the worst.
