Get into the groove, and you'll be treated to a raucous ride that's certain to be some of the most fun you've ever had with a Final Fantasy. I love the story, I adore the addictive battle system, and I can't wait to play through the game again to unlock an even better ending. Even Shane's nitpick about repetitive environments didn't bother me—and all because of those warm, fuzzy feelings I got revisiting those familiar yet drastically changed (machina in a Yevon temple?!?) environs.

I was a bit skeptical and excited at the thought of a Final Fantasy sequel. My expectations were pretty high for this game and well…Square-Enix’s first attempt at a true sequel has resulted in success! What more could you ask for from a Final Fantasy game? We have great looking characters and a great storyline. And we must not forget the new addition of dress spheres which makes this game even better. If you’re one of those people who just wants to play through a game once, then you’ll have loads of trouble seeing all the endings since you must play through the game a few times to see them all.. All in all, this is a must buy for Final Fantasy and RPG fans.

Building off of one of the most beloved stories in the history of gaming, Final Fantasy X-2 paints an epic tale while sporting an uncommonly, enjoyably light-hearted approach to much of it. It holds its own not just as a sequel but as a true, full-fledged Final Fantasy title in its own right. The title's revamped combat is the nicest surprise I've received all year and the class-changing system is a blast to use. With spot-on music and voice acting, and the always spectacular graphics of the series, Final Fantasy X-2 is a winner on all counts and the most refreshing RPG experience I've had in a long time.

For RPG fans that have been around since the beginning of Final Fantasy, it's not uncommon for them to wish for follow-ups to their favorite installments. Whether they wanted to know what became of the Kingdom of Baron in Final Fantasy IV or were curious about the future of Midgar in Final Fantasy VII, there's always somebody somewhere wishing that they could experience just a little bit more. Always hoping that they could go back to the world they spent so many hundreds of hours exploring to find out what happened next.

Square-Enix’ Final Fantasy games are probably the most popular Role Playing Games (RPG) on the market. Every new episode in the series has given us a new story and new characters to play with. Until now, that is… For the first time in history Square-Enix made a direct sequel of one of their Final Fantasy games. Did they make the right choice? Read on!

Final Fantasy X-2 really is an impressive title. There are a couple of niggles - the lip synching can be horrific, and the story isn't Square's best, but RPG and Final Fantasy fans will love this title, guaranteed.

Square's Final Fantasy is arguably the definitive RPG series of all time. It seems only fitting that after every other successful role-playing franchise seemingly provided sequels, prequels, side stories, and (in some cases) fighting games that Final Fantasy finally take its own turn. Despite rumors that ranged from the game being an un-RPG ("there's platform-hopping!") to some kind of fashion show ("chicks change their clothes!"), X-2 incorporates unconventional elements into one of the most engrossing adventures you're likely to play this year.

The ending of Final Fantasy X tugged at my emotions like no game or movie ever has. As I wiped away the tears during the dramatic conclusion, I crossed my fingers and prayed that by the time the credits rolled, everything would turn out okay for Tidus and Yuna. Rather than ending on a happy note, the last few seconds of footage brought about more questions than closure. Leaving gamers guessing and concocting their own conclusions is a great way to finish, but never before has there been such an emotional bond with characters in a game. Square really needed to give fans more. That’s exactly what Final Fantasy X-2 is here for.

Genau hier macht X-2 alles besser. Blitzschnelle Kämpfe, abgespeckte Aufwerterei, eine flotte Story, Minispiele und drei kesse Girls - Experiment geglückt!

So, in conclusion, this game is a great one, if you can put up with a few odd quirks. Let me emphasize, that even though this game had one or two problems, overall I am highly satisfied. I would say that this game is easily an improvement over its predecessor, perhaps even twice as good. It certainly will have a good deal more replay value than the original, so if you are thinking of killing several dozen hours this would be a very good buy. Also one major note, there is almost no spinup wait time in this game, so most of those dozens of hours will be spent playing the game and not waiting.

For fans of any Final Fantasy game, especially those of FFX, this game is worth getting. The battle system is close enough to the original that you won’t have to relearn, and animations are more than worth watching. Sometimes I wish they’d just make a whole movie of animations…. Oh wait, Advent Children…. They are!

Gamers have long clamored for Square to continue the storyline of one of its Final Fantasy games, and with good reason. After spending a good 50 hours with a group of characters embroiled in one life-or-death situation after another, you can't help wanting more. Now the concept of a direct sequel has been put into practice, and the result is Final Fantasy X-2: a slightly uneven but still engaging game that's worthy of the revered name. The story's almost-total reliance on a familiarity with Final Fantasy X may limit its audience to those who enjoyed that game, but then, if you're into RPGs and own a PlayStation 2, odds are you've finished FFX at least once already. At its best, FFX-2 is every bit as poignant, endearing, and engrossing as its forebears, and it's this similarity to stronger games in the series that ultimately makes X-2's minor flaws forgivable.

If, however, you're a fan of FFX who is interested to see what happens next and can deal with a bit of light-hearted entertainment rather than demanding a dramatic epic every time you turn on your console, then FFX-2 is a game you should definitely consider. It's extraordinarily well crafted and polished, as most Square Enix games are, and should deliver a good forty hours of entertainment for your money. Once you get past the kitsch trappings of the game, there's a surprising amount of intelligence underlying it all; and although it's definitely a "side story" rather than a full-blown Final Fantasy title, and some aspects of it do feel very experimental, FFX-2 gets far more things right than it gets wrong.

American poet, Walt Whitman, stated, "I am large, I contain multitudes," and likewise, as a menagerie of sorts, Final Fantasy X-2 is a very difficult game to define. Aside from the amazing visual performance, this sequel attempts to merge non-linear gameplay with a potentially breathtaking storyline, but fails to apply much polish. The result is an experience in disarray. The entire production was desperately seeking cohesion, ultimately falling short of expectations. The adventure left this reviewer with an unshakable feeling that the game amounted to little more than an experiment. While a mildly enjoyable diversion that brought a great deal of closure to Final Fantasy X’s storyline, Final Fantasy X-2 was nevertheless, a failed experiment in gaming. Hopefully Square Enix will address some of these problems before the game is released in North America.

Final Fantasy X-2 is a good sequel, one that rounds up a satisfactory conclusion to Final Fantasy X. Although mediocre by Final Fantasy standards, the effort is commendable. If only the voices have been further improved; if only there wasn't so many cloying attempts at charm; if only the characters weren't archetypes. Rather, the fundamental problem with Final Fantasy X-2 isn't any of its gameplay or artistic elements; it is the image carved and conveyed that isn't up to par. If players are prepared to overlook this single fact, this game is as good as a Final Fantasy can get in terms of gameplay and artistic value.

Adrenaline Vault, The (AVault)
It is unfortunate that the first Final Fantasy to target women gamers has to have one of the most simplistic storylines of the series with a small cast and weak characters. It all boils down to short playtime with tons of reused content, and a shallow storyline. You can replay X-2 with your items and abilities intact, and indeed you will need to do so to get a 100% complete score, but the second time through proves to be even more easy than the first run, making such an option unappealing. There are multiple endings you can strive for, though you’ll surely need a faq or guide to help you meet the specific requirements, and spending the time for an extra cutscene hardly seems worth it. The graphics and immersive combat mechanics are a saving grace, but only to an extent. The multitude of mini-games and side-quests may run the clock out for quite some time, but they are hardly a replacement for the usual epic adventure with emotional movement and significant plot development.

Meristation

Over-familiarity and stagnation has bred a cancerous apathy among gaming's cognoscenti. FFX-2, like it or not, gives players a reason to take notice again.
