All in all, I can't recommend Final Fight enough. It's the perfect port of a retro classic; the original game buckles under the pressure of the fan service that's been added to it. But it's also got online co-op, making it a hugely enjoyable beat-em-up even by modern day standards. In short: if you're a Capcom fan, insta-buy. If you're a lover of old-school fun and fancy a trip down arcade lane, also insta-buy.

The pausing issue aside, Final Fight: Double Impact is well worth the $10 investment. You’re getting two decent games who’s gameplay holds up well to the test of time. Most of the features I noted, from the visuals, full screen or cabinet view, to the co-op, are toggle-able, allowing you to experience the game however you want. If you’re a fan of either game, love button-mashers, or just want to relive the feel of playing games in arcades, you can’t go wrong with this one. I just wish all publishers put this much effort into bringing back a classic arcade title. If only Konami would take a cue from Capcom and give the 1992 6–player X-Men arcade game a re-release, that would be classic gaming nirvana!

Overall, this is a fantastic package for only ten dollars. There is so much to see and do, and with the addition of co-op, you will be able to play online with your friends for hours. Capcom has gone leaps and bounds ahead of the competition with this re-release. They have taken two classics, and brought them to a fresh new audience. Whether you played the originals or not, I highly advise you to check out these games.

Whether you played the original games or not, you will enjoy Final Fight: Double Impact. The presentation of the cabinets and different views are great, the gameplay is as fun as ever, and there’s tons of stuff to collect as you play through this title. Yeah, these are the same games that were released oh-so long ago so there won’t be a million surprises, but Final Fight and Magic Sword are fun to play, the co-op integration is impressive, and there are plenty of reasons to keep playing them over and over again. Two great games just got a welcome dose of polish and love. You should pick them up.

Final Fight: Double Impact does a great job of revitalizing two classics and making them relevant and enjoyable all over again with remastered visuals, audio, and the inclusion of online play.

There haven't been too many times this generation where a remake or re-release was actually surprisingly good. Final Fight: Double Impact is such an occasion. Both games are tremendously fun for different reasons, despite looking fairly similar. Even if only one of the games sounds interesting, it's worth picking up for anyone who considers themselves a fan of arcade action. There are plenty of games on the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network that feel like quick ports. Double Impact goes far beyond that, and features an awesome amount of content for only $10.

Double Impact is a good package, featuring two of the greatest co-op arcade games of all time. Final Fight is really showing its age now, but it's been twenty years, so that may have been inevitable. Magic Sword has aged a great deal more gracefully, and of the two, it's the one that I've been going back to.

Final Fight: Double Impact was a small blast from the past featuring one of the greatest single or co-op brawlers on the market as well as the equally enjoyable gauntlet runner. Growing up these were titles that my younger brother and I would play for hours after school or during the summer. Their simplistic yet challenging gameplay make them enjoyable even today as they did over 20 years ago. If you’re a fan of old-school gaming or have never played either of these titles then I highly recommend picking up Final Fight: Double Impact as soon as you can.

Having said all that, I gotta follow up: these two games are badass. Those of you who remember them fondly from your Osh Kosh days will be swept up in a wave of nostalgia right at the title screen, and everybody else will be hooked from level one.

While the package’s title would infer that Final Fight is the gem of the collection, it’s Magic Sword that steals the show. Spanning 50 demanding floors of enemy-filled areas and treasure-laced corridors, Magic Sword will most likely be the title you return to once you've conquered Final Fight's short campaign. Both games have received a number of slight graphical enhancements (which can also be toggled off) as well as a number of items unlocked through in-game challenges. Extras include everything from concept art to a complete episode of the Street Fighter cartoon series, guest starring the cast of Final Fight. The mileage you get out of Final Fight: Double Impact hinges solely on your adoration of the classic beat-em-up genre represented, but as an example of how companies should treat their classic franchises, Capcom has delivered in spades (and swords and punches).

That said, Final Fight: Double Impact is an excellent package combining two great arcade classics. The niggling annoyances don't add up to any real detriment to the title and the bonuses are pleasant. It's a quality release and one worth grabbing if you've enjoyed either Final Fight or Magic Sword.

At 800 Microsoft Points (£6.85) the price is just about right, especially given the wealth of extra content. For a start the music has been masterfully remixed but there is also a mountain of unlockable artwork, comic books and even a short anime to reward skilful play in both games. But even ignoring the games themselves this should be lauded for its perfect recreation of the original experience.

Capcom is in the enviable position of owning a huge stable of beloved old arcade licenses ripe for a 21st-century digital repackaging. It's only fitting that a game as classic as Final Fight should be first up for this kind of royal treatment, but then again, I'd be willing to play any arcade rerelease that's this lovingly restored.

The two games included in Final Fight: Double Impact are both 20 years old, but still manage to carry the same appeal as when they were first introduced. Of course the technology behind video games has advanced since 1989, so one can't expect ultimate control precision or impressively complex AI routines, but for classic arcade fun, Final Fight and Magic Sword both deliver, especially when played with a friend. A solid remake, for sure.

PlayStation 3Game Informer Magazine
Capcom should have either paired this with a game somewhat relative to Final Fight’s stature (I would have totally accepted Knights of the Round) or cut out Magic Sword to knock $5 off the $10 price tag. That said, any brawler fans that haven’t played Final Fight should still strongly consider downloading this. And despite the fact that I’ve beaten up literally thousands of Mad Gear gang members in my lifetime, I can’t wait to do it over and over again.

‘Final Fight: Double Impact’ for the Playstation Network and XBOX Live Network is a picture perfect version of one of gaming’s great brawlers, backed by terrific local and online multiplayer play. On the flipside, the package’s second title – ‘Magic Sword’ - is a throw-in at best. While a must-purchase for fans of the ‘Final Fight’ series, newcomers might balk at its higher than average price.

In the end, Final Fight: Double Impact is one of the better ports of the classic game. It faithfully recreates the arcade classic, gives players the option of updating the sound, aspect ratio, and visuals, and includes a great second game that most modern gamers aren't familiar with. We can't say it will bowl over modern gamers who've seen better entries in the genre, but it represents an important moment in video game history, and for that reason it's worth a download, at least of the demo.

The biggest complaint that can be leveled at Double Impact is that these games show their age, both in terms of their visuals and their old-fashioned gameplay mechanics. But while there's no denying that the heyday of the side-scrolling arcade game has come and gone, Final Fight and Magic Sword are more than just museum pieces. The level of craft that went into the making of these games has stood the test of time and makes them enjoyable today. This collection may hold special appeal for those who experienced these games in the arcades of the past, but Double Impact's presentation and challenge system make it a great way for newcomers to learn all about street-fighter-turned-mayor Mike Haggar too. And that is a very good thing.

For those with fond memories of whittling time and money away in the arcades, Final Fight Double Impact is well worth a look. The rest of the world will still find something to enjoy, as even though these offerings have aged to the point where few teenagers will look twice, there’s still a good deal of charm that exudes as you punch, spin and slash your way to victory – just don’t expect it to last for longer than a few hours.

Final Fight: Double Impact is a very good port of two classic games by Capcom for next gen consoles. The added online feature lets you play with the world is a welcome addition to the original game. The graphics and music are old school and are preserved through the transitioning of these titles to next generation platforms. The lack of a harder difficulty and the unlimited continues makes the game a bit easier then it would have been if you played it back on the arcade. However, the ability for your friends to drop in and out outweighs the negatives. This game is how a classic should be done and I thank Capcom for a pretty good job well done and look forward to many more classic games being done right in the future.
