Flaws aside, if you're up for a generous dose of amazing animation, rip roarin' music, strappin' sound effects, and just plain adrenaline-pumping fun gameplay, seriously consider getting a grip on Final Fight!

Possibly the best game of it's kind on any console so far. The only superior beat 'em up is Streetfighter II.

Still, the great thing about Final Fight is that it's a timeless game. Whether it's your first time through the game or your seven hundredth, shoulder-tossing one punk into a group of his oncoming friends remains a thrilling experience. It may not be deep in the Virtua Fighter smarty-pants sense, but it is deeply satisfying. Final Fight represents straightforward arcade brawling at its absolute best. That the entire arcade game now fits in your pocket is quite frankly insane.

Picture panels preceding the boss fights and the game's city backgrounds got me into the story – almost a first for me considering FF is a brawler. And a damn fine one at that, I might add.

While there are special features to earn, the points to get them add up quickly, making a $40 purchase a tough call for those weaned on hours of gameplay. Final Fight fanatics have of course snatched this one up already simply to play the most memorable side-scrolling fighter of all time in portable form (the only time it's ever been done). Non-fanatics will still get a great playing classic and trip down memory lane, just be on the lookout for a sale.

The game is just as much fun to play today as it was 15 years ago. It really feels like a side-scrolling Street Fighter II, from the animations and attacks, to the responsive and simple controls. Chances are that you've played this game in some form, at some time or another, and need nothing quite as extreme as Jack Bauer-esque "persuasion" to help you make the decision in spending 800 Wii points on this title. For those that haven't played, without getting out the thumbscrews or phonebook, you are hereby encouraged to download this title if you're a fan of classic action games – despite the aforementioned flaws or omissions.

Final Fight is as challenging as ever, and on Normal mode or higher, it takes more than random button mashing to make it to the final boss, let alone beat him. The highlight of Final Fight has always been taking on the thugs with a friend, and FFO’s link mode works flawlessly to incorporate this aspect. There is zero slowdown or any other glitches even when the screen fills up with tons of enemies. Some very cool extras such as alternate colors for your fighter can be unlocked by defeating set amounts of baddies, adding greatly to the replay value.

Despite the fine action that this game has to offer, one has to wonder what will become of overall series. It’s a real shame that Final Fight hasn’t taken off in popularity like a few of its contemporaries. Besides this awesome little cartridge, the drama of Metro City is limited on this generation of gaming machines. Maybe it’s the dying out of beat ‘em up games and general that has lent to this game’s obscurity. But whatever becomes of the gaming genre, Final Fight One will always be a testament to the old style of arcade and console action that many older gamers have come to appreciate.

Final Fight One is no cakewalk, and just surviving the third level (out of six) requires some serious skill. Like most games of this style, Final Fight's main downfall is how the same bad guys reappear over and over, usually in different colored outfits. Special features that can be unlocked include a stage select, color select, and a "rapid punch" option. If you enjoy old school fighting action, Final Fight One will not disappoint. And one more thing: does anybody else find the title of this game amusing?

I'm disappointed! When I first turned Final Fight on, I thought, cool, it's the best!! Then I found out that guy, my favorite character in the arcade, was missing! the final nail in the casket was the lack of two-player simultaneous play. bad move!! Otherwise, gameplay and graphics are excellent.

Initially an arcade release from Capcom, Final Fight was shrunk down a couple years later for Super Nintendo. Now, the game has found its way to an even smaller system in the form of Final Fight One for Game Boy Advance. Despite its diminutive form, this Final Fight has more features than its counterparts on SNES. All three characters can now be selected (although only two can play simultaneously with a link cable), and the stage that was previously missing is now present. Entirely new to the game are points that are earned through play which can be used to purchase bonus features.

Final Fight was one of the best arcade machines to hit the scene in a long while. The excellent graphics and character movements made it a joy to spend money on. US Gold's conversion is almost equal in the graphics department with large, colourful sprites and detailed animation. Unfortunately, the addition of poor scrolling and slow screen update make the game only and average product. A competent effort that you should try before you buy.

How much you like Final Fight One will depend on how much you like beat-'em-ups. It's a very simple system, compared to its modern descendants like Zombie Revenge and Gekido; one button attacks, and the other jumps. Push them both at once to knock down everyone around your character, at the cost of some of your precious and all-too-finite health. You can also grab a gangbanger with the direction pad, which can lead into a knee strike/bear hug combo, a back throw, or a devastating jumping throw which is sure to negatively affect their lifestyle. You can also pick up weapons. That's it; no elaborate buttonstring combos, no team-up attacks, and no guns. It's, you know, retro.

You want to play Final Fight. This is an inexorable truth. Final Fight is perhaps the single greatest side-scrolling beat-'em-up of all time, a near-perfect realization of the "gang kidnaps someone's girlfriend/wife/daughter/niece/random-damsel-in-distress so you go beat them all up" formula. Between some of the most memorable enemies in beat-'em-up history, a still-great combat system, a slick art style, and the greatest action-hero politician of all time, Metro City mayor Mike Haggar, you absolutely need to play Final Fight at some point in your life. However, the version of Final Fight just released for the Wii Virtual Console isn't necessarily the one you want to play. This is the compromised SNES version, not the arcade original. Still, even for all the details the SNES version mucks up, many of the core factors that make Final Fight so appealing are still intact, and you're bound to have a fun time with it, even in spite of its multiple blights on the arcade game's good name.

Its been over a decade since Final Fight was originally released. Games have changed immensely during that time span as technology has increased. Despite this, the game is still fun. It may not be flashy, the gameplay might be incredibly unsophisticated and repetitive, and the whole game is certainly showing its agebut its still fun. And, no matter what anyone says, I still think its light years better than Squares The Bouncer.

SNESAll Game Guide
For those who never played Final Fight in the arcade, this game is an acceptable and enjoyable substitute. On one hand, it more or less accurately recreates the Final Fight enjoyable experience at home, but it's also a lazy port, and fans of the arcade version will find their enjoyment of the game tempered by that knowledge.

SNESThe Video Game Critic
Final Fight is definitely on the easy side, thanks to dumb enemies who line up so you can clock several at a time. Abundant and effective weapons like knives, pipes, and samurai swords also makes your quest easier. The city street and subway scenery is colorfully detailed, and there are even a few bonus stages that let you smash up cars (a la Street Fighter II). The audio is lacking, with muffled sound effects and generic music, but otherwise this is a very respectable fighter. Final Fight didn't turn out to be as "final" as its title would suggest, as two sequels followed.

SNESHonestGamers
Tragically, Final Fight is a case of fully-fleshed atmosphere mated with half-ass gameplay--so that when you get the game over screen with your character strapped to a chair, dynamite pressed to his chest, you might be inclined to leave well enough alone.

SNESHonestGamers
Though there may be a few bright spots, the overall product is fairly weak and does not come recommended.

AmigaThe Good Old Days
So, in the end, Final Fight is nothing more than a game to impress the other kids when they watch you playing something this great looking. Just don't keep in on long enough for them to notice how lame the actual gameplay is.
