Combine all this and you got a quality game. While it may not be a classic in the same league as Monkey Island, it's still more than worth giving a go. Some may find the humour less catching but I guess this is all down to taste. Personally, I loved it and it's a solid 5 out of 5 to me.

Overall, I would recommend this game but with reservations related to technology. I think that there are a lot of younger computer users out there who have never had to deal with DOS issues, and unless you are comfortable with older technology or really like to fiddle with drivers and configurations and what not, you should probably avoid this game. I think it would be difficult, if not impossible, to actually get it to run under Windows 95 or 98, in either a DOS box or with a DOS reboot, but don't take my word as gospel. If you think you can get it to run, I would recommend it most heartily. Even without the sound effects and voices, I enjoyed Flight of the Amazon Queen a lot.

Flight of the Amazon Queen from Australian developers Interactive Binary Illusions is described as "an irreverent pastiche of the adventure serials that were popular during the 1940's". It is certainly that, and more. It pays homage not only to adventure serials, but also to adventure games. In particular, the influence of LucasArts' Monkey Island and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis is very noticeable. The humour, whilst not side-splitting is very much tongue-in-cheek and pokes gentle fun, with the net result that you play through much of the game with a smile on your face.

Take Flight of the Amazon Queen, a humorously entertaining point-and-click adventure released in 1995 for Amiga and DOS. A timeless piece of fun, FOTAQ is like a classic film, one with enough unique character, and a bit of light-hearted stereotyping, to transform wrinkles into nostalgia. Though understandably not for all, appreciative adventure fans may want to gear up for this daft and enjoyable trip.

If point-and-click adventure were to have a name (and LucasArts didn't exist) it would be Flight of the Amazon Queen. The classic tale of 1940s pilot-for-hire Joe King is entertainingly steeped in antiquated notions of story and puzzle-solving that lend a nostalgic flair to this remake.

Adventurers, eh? They never set out to get involved in stopping plots for world domination. Usually they're just the average guy or girl on the street, living life as best they can. Somehow they meet a strange person and in the click of a finger find themselves fighting Nazis, saving Holy Grails, defeating evil of all shapes and sizes, finding lost cities...the list goes on and on. Sadly the number of poorly done adventure games is almost as long. So where does Flight of the Amazon Queen fit in? Is it comparable to Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis? Or perhaps - I shudder at the thought - another Secret Mission? Let's have a look.

DOSWorld Village (Gamer's Zone)
While "Flight of the Amazon Queen" is reasonably entertaining adventure game fare, and as a spoof it does have its humorous moments, it has its limitations as a truly enjoyable game. Because of its simplicity, it is not likely to be much fun to play again and again, and the characters are only superficially amusing. The graphics are not particularly stunning, and the plot, once solved, doesn't provide enough branching to give you many options next time around. However, it is relatively inexpensive, and as such, has the opportunity to provide some limited entertainment.
