Formula One 2001

Genialität oder Frustration, die Grafik und das Renngeschehen sind einfach super. Das Fahrverhalten ist auch sehr gelungen, jedoch fast zu sensibel, hierfür gibt es allerdings noch die Möglichkeit, das Fahrverhalten für Anfänger und Profis einzustellen. Dreher und Abflüge bei leichter Berührung, sind an der Tagesordnung. Dies kann schon etwas Frust aufkommen lassen. Allerdings mit viel Übung und Konzentration, ist so eine Meisterschaft schon zu bewältigen. Für Anfänger ist einiges zu knabbern, Profis kommen nach etwas Zeit schon eher klar.

Formule One 2001 doet de serie weer eer aan. De controles zijn wat tricky maar als je er eenmaal aan gewend bent, is het echt een hele dope racer.

There is little wonder why Sony are so excited about Formula One 2001, it's a ripper game. Formula One, or any racing game fans for that matter, are bound to be impressed by the visuals, and gameplay, of this title. With the option to tweak your vehicle to improve its performance and impressive computer AI there is little doubt that this is one of the best Formula One racing games ever. Add in the bonus of a great competition (see Exciting Bonus Box above), as well as polished gameplay there is no doubt that this game will continue the deserving success of the PSOne series.

Leichte grafische Schwächen und die doch eher herkömmlichen Spielmodi verhindern, dass sich Formel Eins 2001 auf der Pole Position platzieren kann. Und dennoch: Kein anderes Formel Eins-Spiel bringt den Geschwindigkeits-Rush so gut rüber und verfügt dazu noch über die Lizenz der aktuellen Saison. Nach den ganzen Arcade-Formel Eins-Spielen, die Studio Liverpool als Psygnosis produziert hat, ist der Sprung zum Realismus hervorragend geglückt. Mit ein wenig mehr Zeit im Rücken und dementsprechender Detailarbeit hätte der heiße Renner aus dem Hause Sony alles Zeug gehabt, um Klassenprimus zu werden. Doch das Rennen in Kanada hat ja gezeigt, dass auch Siege von Position 2 möglich sind. Rennspielfans: Zugreifen!

Au final, Formula One 2001 s'en tire très bien grâce à sa bonne réalisation mais aussi parce que le jeu reste accessible aux débutants, bien plus que ses deux concurrents cités en début de test. De plus, il contient un DVD bonus retraçant les événements marquants de la saison F1 précédente.

Arcade racers will be quite challenged by the difficulties of true F1 racing, and may run crying back to the muscle cars in GT3 out of frustration. However, if you already know what F1 racing is all about, then you can expect a well-crafted racing experience.

In the end, Formula One 2001 doesn't offer much new in the world of racing. As a simulation, it provides a rather precise representation of the sport, but lacks in overall innovation and just plain fun. The controls are plagued with problems and the games sensitivity is just too much to handle. I guess the only way I could recommend this title to someone is if they truly want a very challenging game that attempts to be as authentic to F1 racing as possible. What even they may find, however, is that Formula One 2001 is just too tedious to endure.

If you're looking for an F1 game for your PlayStation 2, you would do well to give Formula One 2001 a look. It's not the most visually astounding game, but it finds middle ground between being a rigid sim and a strap-in-and-stomp-it arcade racer. The wealth of customizable options combined with a tight, user-friendly control scheme result in an F1 game that will appeal to more than just gearheads. But the game's several gameplay quirks ensure that it falls short of perfection.

In multiplayer mode it is too difficult to navigate the tracks and this makes the game very frustrating.

Formula One 2001 är ett gediget spel från duktiga spelkonstruktörer. Men de kan med all säkerhet prestera bättre än så här. Den inexakta kontrollen tyder på tidsbrist. Missar här och där till trots så är det sammanfattningsvis ett bra Formel 1-spel. Man inser dock snabbt att saker och ting inte avancerar speciellt fort. 2001 är det nya milleniets första år. Men bilarna ser ut som de gjorde bara ett år innan. Inga märkbara steg har tagits i Wipeout-fordonens riktning. Detta kommer dock troligtvis inte som en överraskning för Super PLAYs mer pragmatiska läsare. Inte heller för mig.

Having never driven a real-life F1 car, it's hard to say whether or not Formula One 2001 really is an accurate simulation of Formula One racing, but in comparison to EA's F1 2001, it definitely feels like it's more of true-to-life simulation. The learning curve is really steep, but patient users will be able to learn to be successful in this game if they put some effort into learning its nuisances. It's just that most people will probably give up before they ever get to this point.

When put side by side with EA's F1 2001, Formula One 2001 doesn't quite make the final cut. It's got plenty of options and the same basic content, but it doesn't go the extra mile to make playing it a riveting experience. On its own, you'll find just an average racing game, but why settle for average when you can do better?

Formula One 2001 bénéficie de la licence officielle mais cela ne suffit malheureusement pas à en faire un bon jeu, surtout au vu des tares accumulées. Les sensations de pilotage sont médiocres, les commentaires sont risibles et tout le reste, à commencer par la réalisation, est tout juste moyen. A moins de ne pas supporter les simulations comme F1 Racing Championship, Formula One 2001 est un compromis acceptable, vu la pénurie du genre sur PlayStation 2. Reste qu'aucun de ces deux titres n'est véritablement excellent. La place est encore vacante sur PS2 !
