Fortified Zone

Fortified Zone whips up a well-balanced mix of strategy and shoot-em-up action. The graphics are highly detailed, and the 3/4 view puts some pop in the perspective. The sound effects are good and the various soundtracks are catchy. The only complaint is that there should be more levels. Fortified Zone is worth invading.

Now this is sure to be a sleeper hit if I ever played one. Fortified Zone takes Metal Gear and makes it fun! No level is too large or too small, no enemy too strong or weak. It was truly a fun Gameboy game. How about that? I never thought I'd play two cool Gameboy games in one issue!

Inhaltlich ist Fortified Zone wie alle Söldnerspiele reichlich bescheuert, spielerisch aber um einiges besser. Das Vorbild war “Rambo“; aufgrund der begrenzten Hardware wurde jedoch eine eigenständige Geschichte daraus. Auch wenn der kleine Bildschirm nicht die Flugbahn jedes Geschosses verrät, gefällt mir die Grafik gut. Der Sound ebenfalls; wer auf das Gepiepse steht, kann sich im abgedrehtesten Soundmenü der Game-Boy-Geschichte davon überzeugen. Ein kameradschaftliches Schulterklopfen auch für originelle End- und Zwischengegner.
