Description

Fox and Geese is a puzzle game from Zillions Development. It's one of a series of puzzle and casual games that makes up their Zillions of Games package which, at version 2.0, consists of three hundred and seventy-five games. While Zillions of Games features ten variants of the game the more commonly known variant, Fox and Geese - 13, was included as a stand alone game in Greenstreet's Board Games compilation.

Fox and Geese is a traditional game that was documented as early as the fourteenth century. Having been around so long it naturally has many names and variations, it is called Renard et les poules in France, Lupo e pecore in Italy, Fuchs und Gänse in Germany, Rävspel in Sweden, and other versions from Iceland to Nepal are known to exist.

The basic game is played on a cross shaped board with thirteen counters of one colour representing the geese and a single odd coloured counter representing the fox. Players can only move when it is their turn and then only to adjacent vacant position. Additionally the fox may capture a goose by jumping over it if the point behind it is vacant, a bit like taking a piece in draughts/checkers. The objective of the player with the geese counters is to trap the fox while the objective of the fox is to avoid being trapped, i.e. finding themselves in a position where a legal move is no longer possible.

This is a single player vs the computer game that is entirely mouse controlled.
