Description

Fractal Fighter is a shooting game, where the player's spaceship engages several large enemy ships in one-on-one combat. The enemy ships resemble a branching fractal; they are made of a core, out of which branch out several large lasers; out of the tip of every laser branch out several heat-seeking missile launchers, which further branch out into triple guns, and finally small weak guns.

Only one type of the enemy weaponry is active and vulnerable at any given time, blasting out its projectiles every few moments. The player has to fire upon the weapons; once all the weapons of a given type are destroyed, the next layer of them activates, and so on until the player destroys all the large lasers, at which point the enemy ship is destroyed and the next one takes its place.

Weapons possessed by the player include typical rapid-fire bullets, and lasers which fire slowly, but their beam can pass through obstacles. It is also possible to lock onto a target and launch a barrage of missiles.

The player can choose to have from one to five lives during the game; the more the lives, the lesser the score. There are two modes available: the "normal mode", where the player engages ten predetermined ships, and "random mode", which repeatedly pits the player against randomly generated ships.
