From Russia with Love is an amazing Bond title, beyond that it is a brilliant 3rd person shooter too. The Bond theme is used to great effect in everything from the weapons and gadgets though to the music and models, you really do feel as though you are playing through a Bond adventure as you go through the game, the fact that the voice for Bond is provided by Sean Connery also adds to the feel of title in a big way. Fans of the genre are going to love this game to bits, especially if like me you enjoy it when you are encouraged to complete the levels within certain conditions to obtain more stuff and to facilitate this you can choose to replay any level on any difficulty from the mission menu. I recommend this game to anyone who likes either 3rd person shooters or James Bond games and movies.

There have been many Bond iterations in the past and though this game doesn't touch the hem of GoldenEye, it definitely comes close. From Russia With Love is a great movie adaptation, an enjoyable Bond enterprise, and totally worth the 10+ hours of avid single-person game-play. Though the Death Matches are fun, this game does not have the multiplayer replay value worthy of purchase, but is a fantastic rental for fans of 007 and action.

Let’s face it. There hasn’t been a defining Bond game since GoldenEye on the N64. Even when they tried to repackage the “GoldenEye” name with last year’s Rogue Agent game the results were less than stellar. In fact, the only Bond game worth more than a casual look would have to be the impressive Everything or Nothing in early 2004.

From Russia with Love is one of the best Electronic Arts Bond titles, with the possible exceptions of Everything or Nothing and Nightfire. I'm honestly getting frustrated with EA changing formulas with each new game; four new Bond games since 2002, each of them feel different. While I usually don't have to justify my ratings in the actual review, I feel it's necessary to explain how I went about this, before I get e-mails saying how I mistakenly gave this a lower score than it should have gotten. Even though Everything or Nothing received a 9.2, our review system calls on us to review games at the time of release. That game was a 9.2 at the time of release; this one is not at the same level of quality as that was when it was first released. With competition from other third-person action shooters, From Russia with Love stands tall, but slumps in game length and multi-player.

PSPGame Chronicles
From Russia With Love was a good Bond game on the console and a surprisingly good Bond game on the PSP. It easily mirrors the content and gameplay of the console, and the few graphics glitches are more than made up for with new PSP-exclusive content. If this is well received we might be seeing more classic Bond movies going interactive. Maybe Roger Moore can do the voice for a Moonraker-inspired game.

Yep, Shir Sean is back, in one of the most enjoyable 007 console games yet. Electronic Arts has left no classic Bond film unplundered in this shoot- ’em-up, in which Bond must rescue the kidnapped daughter of the British Prime Minister. Drive the Goldfinger DB5, fly the Thunderball jetpack and fight some classic baddies in challenging environments. It’s enough to make you toss your trilby on to a hat-rack in delight.

From Russia With Love is a great film. From Russia With Love is not a great adaptation of that film, as it seems to believe that what the source material really needed was a few more rocket launchers and gatling guns. Despite all of my problems with the game conceptually, though, I can't fault its design or playability. It's a great action game, just not a great James Bond game.

There are predictable missteps--the driving sequences are awkward and twitchy, and the camera doesn't always behave itself--but on the whole, From Russia With Love is a convincing and enjoyable ride on the sixties Bond rollercoaster.

Any moviephile will tell you that James Bond has changed a lot. Preferences range from the suave androgyny of Roger Moore to Pierce Brosnan's squinting smoothie, but for some, none can match the self-assured Sean Connery original.

Younger gamers might think that the king of espionage is Splinter Cell's Sam Fisher. Sure, he has the cool moves and the funky gadgets, but followers of the international intrigue scene know that James Bond was doing the whole super agent thing while Fisher was theoretically still in diapers and a tiny pair of night-vision goggles. And the true fans know who the real James Bond is. Nope, it's not Pierce Brosnan or the old and bloated Roger Moore. Sean Connery is James Bond. Electronic Arts throws gamers back in time to let them play as Connery's Bond in a highly stylized action romp that's a worthy follow-up to last year's Everything or Nothing.

Looking into the goldmine of the Bond legacy, Electronic Arts successfully convinced its licensors that bringing Sean Connery into the fold and re-envisioning an older movie license was a good thing. Agreed. The second Bond movie fits the British spy film formula to a tee, with its recipe of shooting action, car chases, and high-tech gadgetry. It's a license that Rare was able to flesh out well with GoldeEye 007, but one that EA has had some difficulty with over the years.

I've insisted for years that as capable as Pierce Brosnan was, Sean Connery was the true James Bond. You just couldn't escape Connery's debonair, his grace, his ability to be believable both as a world-saving super spy and a dream-dashing womanizer. Connery was Bond, plain and simple. So when the latest 007 game was announced, and Sean Connery was providing both his voice and his Bond-era likeness to the game, let's just say I was a tad more excited than I was about the previous 007 games.

From Russia With Love is one of those games that milk a previous success before it. Why EA decided to take a step backwards with this title has us dumbfounded. Still, the game's very worthy of a rental, and non-deniable of its solid gameplay for a James Bond title.

The James Bond franchise has a long and colorful history in video games, each time with the intent of trying to capture the unique action, flavor, and style of James Bond. Sometimes these ideas work, and sometimes they don’t. The latest attempt is From Russia With Love by EA Games, and it does a fairly decent job of recreating your typical Bond action.

Perhaps it is just my love of nostalgia. Perhaps I am just a James Bond freak. I loved this game, even when it frustrated my efforts to complete it to the point of putting it down for days until I could return with a fresh perspective. I would have preferred the old graphic adventure style of game with this subject, cast, and technical graphics engine. Unfortunately, in life you can't have everything. I highly recommend buying the wide screen version of the film and watching it while playing the game.

Although it won’t take long to beat the game, there’s always the option of playing through on a higher difficulty level (as well as trying to get all of the awards). There are also three bonus missions to unlock if you receive enough awards. For fans of the classic 60s Bond movies, this is well worth checking out, despite its flaws.

PlayStation 2Worth Playing
From Russia with Love, the latest in EA’s yearly James Bond videogame franchise, had a lot of expectation to live up to. The last game in the series, Goldeneye: Rogue Agent, was met with excoriating reviews and underwhelming sales, and 2005 did not see any new Bond movies to ride on the coattails of – in fact, for most of the year there still wasn’t even an actor in the role of Bond. EA’s fascinating solution upped the ante even further – they decided look backwards, to the days when Connery was Bond and the movies were well-respected, and to 007: Everything or Nothing, the best-appreciated 007 game since Goldeneye. Unfortunately, From Russia with Love doesn’t do enough with what it has, the result being a title with high production values but simplistic gameplay.
72
XboxFragland.net
EA has a mixed history with their James Bond franchise. Rogue Agent couldn't really appeal to anyone but with a topgame like Goldeneye 007 on the Nintendo64 as base it's hard to offer more than expected. Everything or Nothing was a step in the right direction and it's the same way they've ran with the newest Bondgame: From Russia with Love.
72
XboxDigital Entertainment News (den)
I just don’t get this latest trend of games based on old movies. The Godfather, Scarface, The Warriors, From Russia With Love… anyone old enough to have seen these films when they came out likely either doesn’t play videogames or at least knows that licensed videogames have a less than shining reputation. I suppose James Bond has a little more traction here, with films in the series still being released. Still, there have been more memorable Bond films to tap, particularly those starring Connery.
72
PlayStation 2Digital Entertainment News (den)
It's about time they decided to go with a James Bond title starring the best Bond, Sean Connery. While some of his other exploits as MI6's 007 might've been better suited to be transitioned to the realm of video games, From Russia With Love has enough juicy story and bare-knuckled action sequences to comprise an enjoyable game. Sadly, the developers decided to totally disregard a lot of the film's content to create a game that's just about average. Jake, in his review of the Xbox version, suggests that maybe EA is “on autopilot” with regards to developing Bond games, and that doesn’t seem to be very far off the mark.

James Bond: From Russia With Love isn't the loving title I would have hoped for - nor is it from Russia. I don't think you should completely write off this game, because it could make a decent rental - at the end of the day, it has quite a compelling story and where else are you going to hear Sean Connery in a videogame? You should seriously think twice before going out and buying From Russia With Love though, as I can't see anybody going through this game more than once, unless you really are a die-hard Bond fan. It's certainly not worth owning for the multiplayer side of things either. Now, where did I save those TATU pictures? They really are from Russia with love!

GameCubeTotalVideoGames (TVG)
After the abhorrent mess that was GoldenEye: Rogue Agent, Electronic Arts have managed to rescue the James Bond franchise with a game that might not live up to the success of Everything or Nothing, but at the very least is an average title. Going back to the roots of Bond is certainly one way that EA can harvest ideas for the franchise (let’s face it there’re enough movies left) but From Russia With Love does suffer from being a by-the-numbers release. Everything that was in EoN is back albeit with a contemporary 1960s setting including the gadgets, yet there’s something distinctly lacking that fails to bring the game close to living.

The end result is a game that tries too hard to stay out of your way. Everything or Nothing was a game that didn't try to trip you up too much, mostly for the sake of keeping its exciting ride moving at a brisk and enjoyable pace. From Russia With Love lacks much of that excitement, thus making its simplicity stick out like a sore thumb. It certainly has its periodic thrills, but they're interspersed among a lot of shooting-gallery-like combat that doesn't require an ounce of skill on your behalf. Bond fans should find a pretty solid rental in From Russia With Love--provided they're not too sensitive to the rewrites EA made to the storyline--but it's probably not worth taking the plunge as a purchase.

A well-dressed gentleman steps out of his Aston Martin DB5, walks inside, weaving his way through the crowd like a shark trolling for his dinner. As he steps to the bar, "Shaken not stirred." Seems like the classics never die, and Electronic Arts chose a good one to bring back. For this latest installment of the 007 games, they went all the way back to the beginning of Bond, and hired Sean Connery to reprise his role as the super agent. Like many others, he's my favorite Bond. From Russia with Love is a decent game, but it seems to be aimed at the fans more than the super-elite first-person shooter experts, and you know what, I like that! This one's all about style, that classy old school 1960's Bond style. From the very beginning of the game, it presents itself exactly like the movies do. You're dropped right into the story. Only once you've completed that first level, do you get to see the opening credits. EA went to great lengths to keep the movie style of 007 intact.

The sound is decent with the appropriate 007 fanfare and mood music, while the overall theme of being in the movie with Sean Connery as Bond is great. It's amazing how frighteningly close the character looks to Connery himself. Some of the other characters have that creepy "too real to be real" look going for them. That's just one more small ding on a game that is otherwise entertaining. This one's still more for the Bond fans than the shooter fans, though.

The only real addition unique to this handheld version is an assortment of time challenges, like "kill 12 rappelling soldiers" or "defeat Red Grant".

From Russia With Love just doesn't have a lot going for it. The game's controls are fundamentally broken, the cameras are terrible, the game is extremely short, the mini-games are a joke and nobody will be entertained by the multiplayer modes ... this just isn't a very good Bond game. About the only thing Electronic Arts gets right is 007's look, circa 1963. Everything else seems to come a short, one thing the real James Bond never had to worry about. This is nothing more than a lazy port of a mediocre console game.

Introduction: in the following text you’ll find out just what it is I dislike about the latest James Bond game, From Russia With Love, a third person action game on the Playstation 2.

While there's something to be said for carrying James Bond's latest video game adventure in the palm of your hand, From Russia With Love on the PSP suffers from too many drawbacks to make it worth your while. The breezy gameplay is only made more challenging by technical gaffes and frustrating issues, and the multiplayer component is the opposite of a good time. There are definitely satisfying moments to be had in From Russia With Love, but those moments are much more satisfying when played on any of the other versions that are available.

From Russia With Love is an immersive game, but it's just too bad that the gameplay at the core of it is so ho-hum and bland. If you played Everything or Nothing and liked it, then good. Cherish those memories or replay it because other than its classic setting and Sean Connery, From Russia With Love doesn't have anything that you haven't seen before and seen better.

The average gamer will be able to complete this in a day or two. I wouldn't suggest sticking around for the multi-player modes. Rent this game, just as you would the movie. If you purchase it, it will leave you shaken, not stirred.

From Russia With Love started out as a rather decent PlayStation 2 title, and the experience has translated to the handheld fairly well despite a few technical problems. It's still an enjoyable single-player shooter with the Bond name, and the multiplayer isn't particularly impressive but certainly doesn't hurt to have. A pretty good port is a far cry from a strong original game, but fans looking for a quick fix of shooting action should find that this game meets the standard.

Although the game isn't particularly bad, it's just too straightforward, and fails to offer anything to the genre. While the single player will provide enjoyment for a while, it's over too quickly, and the lacklustre multiplayer mode doesn't save the day. However, at least it's better than GoldenEye: Rogue Agent.

In the end, From Russia With Love is just a good solid action game that manages to pass by on the PSP. For those that were hoping for the same great experience, you are going to be disappointed because a lot of what made From Russia with Love great on the consoles has been taken out of this title. Unless you just love the franchise, you can probably just pass up From Russia With Love.

From Russia With Love is a rather unimaginative Bond title that simply goes through the motions. What it does, it does pretty well, but when the now two-year-old Everything or Nothing boasts a better overall gaming experience, something has gone a little wrong. Fans of the movie will probably object to the butchered plot and you'll often wish for a little more variety in the gameplay, but the package is sleek enough to provide some solid entertainment throughout its short duration.

There is absolutely nothing modern about James Bond. The character is a throwback to a time we now deem simpler than ours. The suave, charming womanizer incarnated by Sean Connery is the ultimate male fantasy figure, able to save the world and get laid at the same time. So it makes a certain kind of sense that EA's From Russia With Love, which revisits the classic film, should itself be throwback to a simpler, bygone era of gaming.

I wanted to like it. Really, the raving Bond fan hidden inside of me was practically begging me to enjoy this game more. How could it have gone so wrong? It was an adaptation of one of the most classic Bond films ever made. It was supposed to be a departure from the FPS-style Bond games that we’ve grown to love. And above all else, it had Sean Connery providing the voice acting. Unfortunately, not even that could save the game from its utterly abysmal quality. The combat system is a joke compared to those found in previous games, the special features are nothing more than overused gimmicks, and it feels more like an unfinished work. There’s nothing new or interesting about this game; it’s just another horribly mediocre third-person shooter with the words “James Bond” stapled on. When all is said and done, From Russia With Love lacks an important quality that previous Bond titles had: fun.

From Russia With Love is a perfect example of how not to port a game from the PS2 to PSP. It does absolutely nothing new and a host of things much worse. Even if the port was dead-on, this isn't the type of game you're going to want to buy again if you beat it on the PlayStation 2. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this half-assed effort (though if you're curious about the game, it's worth a look on the PlayStation 2).
