PlayStation 3Worth Playing
Fuel is a good game, reveling in its goodness and its genre, without trying to be the exclamation point for every racing title ever developed. It's also enormously fun, both in the ordered-style events, and just roaming anywhere and almost everywhere around this spine-tinglingly crazy world Asobo has envisioned for us. Of course, I'll be playing lots of Fuel in the short term, but it's the sort of game that will regularly come off the shelf for extended play sessions for quite a while into the future. If you like unpretentious, good-looking arcade racers, and "fun" is maybe your top requirement for a game, you'll want to own Fuel. The reasonably unique alternate history theme and sheer magnitude of the game world are all icing on the cake. You might want to pull over right here.

Fuel naprawdę zapewnia wiele godzin, a nawet dni i tygodni doskonałej rozrywki.

Still, for all its faults, I ended up liking Fuel; it's a solid racing title and if Motorstorm or Pure didn't exist, I probably would have rated it higher. As it stands, it's the third best next-gen off-road racing title I've played and while third place won't get you the checkered flag, it still gets you onto the winner's podium.

Outside of the staggering 5000+ miles, FUEL may do little to take the genre in new directions, but it gets the important aspects right: the vehicles are fun to race and the world may be huge, but it has enough in the way of diversity in its environment to make sure that things don‘t get too familiar. It all results in FUEL being a great and feature rich open world racer.

A game misunderstood even by the developers themselves, Fuel delivers unforgettable journeys rather than arcade racing.

While it’s clear that Asobo spent ample time in perfecting the tech that’s needed to enable a speedy racing game to run smoothly for hundreds of (no-load) miles on end, more attention needed to be paid to the fleshing out the Career objectives and tightening up the overall presentation package. Fuel is still worth a test drive, but those looking for a truly complete racer—not just a techno-marvel—may want to give it a rent first.

PlayStation 3The Review Busters
What sounded like a promising game is actually a big dud. Fuel may still look real great from the outside but trust me when I say that you need to stay away. There might be a lot to do in Fuel and a lot of areas to cover but with gameplay like this it is much better looking at this one on store shelves.

Fuel is definitely not a bad game. In fact, I liked it a lot. However, it is not the standout title that I was expecting it to be. Last year's GRID was such a memorable racing game, and I was really expecting Fuel to be another standout title in the same vein. Despite being a very competent racer, and one fans of arcade-style racing will enjoy, Fuel just doesn't ever cross the line into “amazing” territory. If you were expecting lightning in a bottle, Fuel keeps the electricity in the environmental elements and out of the gameplay.

PlayStation 3Good Game
There could be some vehicle tweaking and definitely some reward for second place, but I loved the variety of tracks – if you’re gonna go aracde-y drift and physics, and lots of unmodable vehicles in a racer, you gotta have lots of tracks, and this has stacks. I’m giving it 7.5.

Overall I was hoping for a bit more with this title from Codemasters especially after playing DiRT and seeing how they did the interactive load menus as a great visual during loads which wasn’t present here. The load screens were plain at best and ran some general stats along the bottom but not the cool stuff seen in their other racers. FUEL is a very cool world that’s been designed nicely with some great weather effects although lacks some depth in the gameplay to really draw you in like I really wanted.

It's difficult to be too critical of a game that has accomplished so much, with the right balance FUEL could have been something truly phenomenal to experience, there's certainly enough achieved here that combined into a sequel and some further gameplay fine-tuning could be one of the more finer racers to appear on consoles. The first open-world FUELled outing however will certainly be worth trying out for those that look to master every racing game, for other gamers, there's certain enjoyment to be had here, though it's not all adrenaline-fuelled, perhaps taking a test drive before purchasing would prove a wise decision.

Da müssen schon bessere Gründe her.

Fuel is definitely a racer that will appeal to some, especially fans of Motorstorm and to some extent Test Drive Unlimited. It is a fun game to play, although not quite up to the standard of Codemasters other racers.

There's no doubting you get value for money with FUEL - there's more than enough to feast on here. However, it's a mixed bag of quality, and if we had to make the choice we'd plump for short sharp bursts of brilliance in MotorStorm: PR or Colin McRae's DiRT over the lengthy forays of FUEL.

Xbox 360ZTGameDomain
FUEL has a ton of potential, and moments of brilliance stashed under its rough exterior. The problems are hard to ignore though, and unless you have a ton of time to dedicate to it, the races will likely grow boring long before you uncover half of this massive world. However, if you are starved for a good off-road racer, then there is certainly no reason not to take it for a spin. The driving mechanics are solid, if not a bit floaty, and the amount to see and do will keep you busy for months. The graphics are entirely solid and the online has the potential to be incredibly addictive if they continue to support it with patches. FUEL is certainly not a bad game; it just suffers from being too big for its own britches.

PlayStation 3Destructoid
Ultimately, despite Fuel's many flaws, it is a fun game and its heart is in the right place. It's simple to get into, it looks good and at the end of the day it provides some incredibly good racing action. Purists will hate it, but those who just want to have a laugh without worrying about hardcore racing simulation will enjoy Fuel for what it is. A good game in spite of its issues, despite what everybody else is saying about it.

The complete lack of boundaries means it's a totally unique challenge, in which standard racing skills often need to be thrown out of the window. Despite this, with such exciting technology at its core, we can't help but hope that Asobo gets another roll of the dice to create something truly, and consistently, astonishing.

It’s a shame that FUEL's developer Asobo spent so much time in creating this huge, open-world with diverse environments and not concentrating on the fundamentals of the game; because without the world, FUEL would be burning on the bonfire now. The world itself does just enough to make the frustrating racing experience bearable.

FUEL had it all on paper. A huge playing world, extra obstacles thanks to the weather effects and the fast, exciting races. What we finally got was an offroad racer with a huge but pretty empty world with dull races and beautiful weather effects. The multiplayer is a bit simple, the AI is dumb and audiovisually the game falls short. If you're a big fan of offroad racers and haven't had enough of Motorstorm, Pure and other similar games then FUEL might be able to catch your interest. For all others amongst you, you can leave this one be on the store shelves.

If you want to get the most out of Fuel, you should plug in an Xbox 360 controller. Other gamepads and wheels may work, but many players are reporting difficulties with their racing hardware of choice. But even given this drawback and others, some players will embrace Fuel's overall ambition. Nevertheless, if you're interested in racing--and there's a good chance you are--then you'll likely be disappointed by the game's shortcomings. Sure, there are a lot of races and vehicles, and there's a huge, unpopulated open world to check out, if that's your thing. Yet Fuel often seems to go out of its way to invite goodwill, only to let you down. If you're the patient type, it's worth checking out, but if you're looking for offroad excitement, games like Pure and Dirt are better choices.

FUEL is ambitious and it’s mediocre fun at best. There’s excellent technology behind it, graphically it’s quite nice but could have done with more polish. Though the online when it works redeems it a little, it still fails to engage with a limp-wristed career and lack-lustre rewards. It works great as a Point of Concept demo and perhaps the post-apocalyptic setting was a bad idea, since the game is devoid of life even with 16 players online.

What we have here isn’t a game that’s filled with bugs or serious, unfixable mechanical problems that make it unplayable. Nope – it’s just slow; too slow to be fun. And that’s a shame because, if it had been a faster and more aggressive racing game, players would have walked away excited and eager for more. Now, they’ll probably just walk away.

Xbox 360Gamervision
Fuel is an ambitious project that I don’t think was fully realized. It seems like the developers set out to create a huge open world, did so, and then called it a day. Everything else about the game is completely lackluster, and even driving around the open map, the high point of the game, gets tedious after a while. There is some entertainment value, but it won’t last for very long. I would have gladly sacrificed some of that square mileage for better gameplay and more exciting events. Let this be a lesson to you, developers: size isn’t everything.
57
PlayStation 3PSX Extreme
All in all, a novel concept ultimately does not translate to a proper game, as Fuel is missing some of the standard gameplay traits that define a game like this. Despite its massive terrain, a barren game world, a poorly structured and limited scope prevents Fuel from being anything worth your time. Furthermore, with uninspired visuals and audio that fails to impress across the board this game doesn't even cause a spark. And with that pun, I shall end this review.
56
Xbox 360TalkXbox
Again, Fuel is just a poor game no matter how you try and look at it. There's a fair amount of content here, but it's not good. I can't imagine anyone seeing this game through to full completion. Multiplayer won't save it either; a week after the game's launch, I found less than five people were playing online, all of them alone in their match, and I couldn't successfully connect to any of them. It's a game design that just doesn't fit together. Why not just ditch the open world and focus on the physics and tracks? Why do you locate liveries for your cars by finding them out in the wild instead of, say, earning cash and purchasing them? With some tweaks and a bunch more polish, Fuel could have been a multi platform answer to Motorstorm. As it stands, it's just a sloppy game, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
55
PlayStation 3NZGamer
Ultimately, Fuel’s biggest problem is that it wants to be so big. Asobo seem to heave held onto this ambition like a mantra, and one ends up feeling beaten over the head by it, ‘5560 square miles!’ in glowing lights. Fuel feels like one giant exercise in proving a point, a huge technical achievement that manages to eschew the fundamental rules of a good racer and drive itself, tragically, into mediocrity.
55
Xbox 360Play.tm
Fuel's enormous ambition can't be ignored and it has been acknowledged as the biggest game ever with a Guinness World Record to show for it. However, when that ambition fails to live up to its promise by delivering a hollow and disappointing experience, you can't help but feel somewhat nonplussed by the final product. This should have been incredible, but having tried our very best to like Codemasters' latest racing IP, we can't help but feel like we've been taken for a ride. Fuel-ed, if you will.
54
Xbox 360Peliplaneetta.net

After putting in numerous hours with Fuel, I've struggled to find anything that I especially like about it. The racing has issues, but in and of itself (outside of not being able to select a ride you might want), it works well enough. Not great, but well enough. If you play the game and just skip all of the collection crap (unless you have a ton of time to kill) and just simply move from race to race via the menus, you might be able to squeeze out an experience that isn't painful. But don't go wandering and expect to find anything cool - it's all just wasted space.

And all of the above is a crying shame, because if the massive game world and plethora of races and things to do were housed in something with proper physics and some reference to the real world, we would have loved it. Unfortunately, Codemasters have published a shambles of a game, so we’ll spend our time playing GRiD and waiting for Dirt 2.

Open-world racing can work (look at Burnout: Paradise). But where that game succeeded in bringing you a fictional world that was full of life and rival cars to unlock, FUEL gives the player none of that and no incentive to continue playing after few initial hours of gameplay.

Like a spiny armband of black ink needled in at the end of a bender, Fuel is the tragic result of spontaneity without foresight, and design without inspiration. Games like Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Burnout Paradise proved that open-world racing could be captivating even in the spaces between bouts. Fuel went for bigger and succeeded, but forgot to add anything that could be construed as better, or even equal, like a rearview mirror.

To conclude this review I leave you with a final thought and some advice. Fuel had the makings of a great game but just falls over too many hurdles.
