G-LOC is a game you've got to play a lot before you get good enough to really start enjoying it and getting the high scores. It's addictive enough to keep you trying, though and if you're looking for a 3D blast 'era up, then look no further. Anyway, let's face it, all good things take absolutely wodges of practice. For instance Danii Minogue wasn't born with the voice of a goddess, dear me know, she practiced for years to sound like her big sister Kylie. However if your idea of sheer joy is to fly fast, fab jets then your quest is at an end and it looks as if you're found a personal Holy Grail which will enrich and rejuvenate your sad, shallow, games-playing life. Look, what I'm trying to say is that G-LOC is the game you should buy.

Following in the footsteps of Afterburner, G-LOC is a fast, action packed, aerial shoot 'em up with many difficult enemies and situations to overcome. Unfortunately the game lacks any real mission variety but does make up for tis with some serious arcade speed action. Not my favourite air combat sim but certainly worth a look if you are a die hard fan of this particular game genre

Squeezing the rather awesome arcade game into the Master System was an ambitious project to say the least - but amazingly, Sega have pulled it off! The graphics are neat - there's a little sprite flicker, but the 3D update is fast and convincing. The sound isn't quite so hot however, with some dire tunes that make you want to hide under a blanket. What's best, though, is the gameplay. It's best described as what Top Gun II should have been, with lots of missions and detailed briefings. The points trade system is a marvellous idea, introducing and interesting strategy element alongside the action. The action is fast and furious, and offers challenge and addiction unmatched by any other Master System 3D shoot 'em up. Potential Top Guns shouldn't miss it.

Compared to previous Game Gear releases, G-Loc is visually impressive, although the sound is a disappointment. If you play your games in short bursts, the frenetic action of G-Loc is fine. But if you're looking for a longtime companion for your Game Gear, forget it; this one won't last a month.

I don't think all you Red Barons, Tom Cruises and so on will be disappointed with this. Its an ambitious game for the Spec, which usually spells disaster, but its certainly got some balls

Obviously inspired by After Burner, G-LOC has superior graphics (better detail, color and 3D effects) and slightly more versatile gameplay. The game is available in three types of cabinets: upright, standard sit-down (tilts forward, back, left, right) and deluxe sit-down, which encloses the player and uses hydraulics to rotate the machine a full 360 degrees on both axis, giving the game an intensely immersive effect.

And indeed, all of the combat and the flying is decent enough, and entertaining for a few hours, but let's be honest, it's all been seen so many, many times before. And unfortunately the graphics for the ground, instead of being super-detailed and skillful, are rubbishy triangular planes of tedium. Only G-Loc fanatics need apply.

A game that could have been so much fun is ruined by really dodgy controls - I'm sure there could have been something done about this before the games release and we would have a much better title to play today. If you like arcade flight simulations I would recommend Afterburner over this, but it can be worth a play if your a bit bored.

So what can be said about G-LOC: Air Battle? Well, Probe tried. They got some aspects right, while flubbing others. There's simply an undeniable sense of sudden rush job in the game... like it was initially getting the attention it needed to be a pretty good port, and then the project was hurried along for a deadline. The end result is a mish-mash of good stuff and bad stuff, that drags the game down. And honestly, what is it with HQ and their needing fifteen targets shot down? Do they have a quota they have to meet? G-LOC is not a horrid game, but you can see that it could, and should, have been better. As it is, the game's coming in for a landing on the USS Mediocre.

Atari STST Format
Graphics look rushed, the screen display is sparse and dull, the gameplay is boring and repetitive and it all leaves you with the feeling that the licence was acquired, the project was begun and then something went drastically wrong - like they lost the master disks and had to knock up something for the deadline, whether it looked liked some sub-standard effort from a 3D shoot-'em-up construction kit or not. If you want to play a similar, infinitely superior game, get yourself an Atari Lynx and a copy of Blue Lightning. Almost a complete waste of time. Do yourself a big favour - get doing the washing, up, it's much more fun - and useful, too.
