Batman Begins

The rich scenery has a nice weathered look to it, and the rain and snow look terrific. Batman has a wide arsenal of hand-to-hand moves, including a rolling kick and an uppercut that can take out three thugs at a time (yeah - now that's old school!) Fighting is fun, and enemies have little health meters under them. Batman Begins also incorporates a lot of stealth elements - for better or worse. I like the idea of getting "the drop" on enemy thugs, but certain stages require you to remain totally unseen, and that's just tedious. Batman Begins features nicely illustrated cut scenes and a soundtrack worthy of a Hollywood action movie. The stealth elements tempered my enthusiasm, but it's nice to see an old-school take on a new-school movie.

Die düstere Stimmung und dunkle Atmosphäre des Kinostreifens auf den GBA zu transportieren, ist ein schwieriges Unterfangen, das trotz des kleinen Bildschirms gut gelingt. Die Szenarien sind durchaus abwechslungsreich, jedoch wiederholen sich die einzelnen Spiel-Elemente häufig. Ich hatte meinen Spaß und werde mir jetzt wieder mein Cape umschnallen, denn Fürth wartet darauf, gerettet zu werden!

Batman Begins is good but it's not great. It becomes redundant as you end up doing the same thing in almost every level. A few Batmobile levels would help to break up the monotony. It's not a long game and it's not a very hard game. There isn't much for replay value so rent it first and see how far you get and if you're interested in going any further.

Batman Begins is easily the best Batman title on the Game Boy Advance, but considering the competition (Batman Vengeance, Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu), that's not all that strong a compliment. The GBA title is a solid one with enough strengths in its design to recommend, as long as you understand that the game doesn't offer a whole lot of "wow" factor.

Een slechte game kan ik Batman Begins niet noemen. Er zitten best leuke stukjes in en de vloeiende besturing maakt veel goed. Helaas wordt de game steeds frustrerender naarmate je vordert waardoor het op een gegeven moment gewoon niet leuk is om weer even te gaan gamen. Sommige stukjes heb ik talloze keren moeten proberen en op een gegeven moment kom je er met meer geluk dan wijsheid doorheen. Dat is erg jammer, want als ik game wil ik het gevoel hebben dat ik wat bereikt heb en niet dat ik toevallig geluk had en daardoor verder ben gekomen. Batman Begins is een standaard platform game waarin je lekker kunt beuken en meppen maar meer moet je er ook niet van verwachten. Het is in ieder geval een game die boven de gemiddelde filmlicentiegame uitsteekt (of dit aan het niveau van de andere games ligt of aan Batman Begins laat ik maar even in het midden).

Although there are select few portions of enjoyable gameplay in Batman Begins, most of the game is annoying and tedious. For that reason, and coupled with the issue of the game's very short length, Batman Begins is a mediocre action title that should be avoided.

C'est pas qu'on s'ennuie, mais presque. On aurait aimé découvrir un gameplay un poil plus profond pour alterner les tactiques d'approches et avoir l'occasion de se la jouer petite chauve-souris fourbe qui agit dans l'ombre. Sans cet aspect, Batman Begins sur GBA ressemble à bon nombre d'autres titres sur la console : un jeu où on frappe et on avance sans trop se poser de questions.

The best thing that can be said about the Game Boy Advance version of Batman Begins is that it does a good job of following the movie's script. Beyond that, this brief two-hour romp is just another in a long line of mediocre action games churned out to cash in on a big-budget motion picture.

"Batman Begins" é mais um jogo baseado em filme que parece feito apenas no intuito de ganhar uns trocados a mais, sem se preocupar com funcionamento o jogo em si, que é quase idêntico a "Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow". "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" para Game Boy Advance é um exemplo de como trabalhar bem a obra original. Mas "Batman Begins" está mais para um ataque dos clones.
