Summary

Play on your DS

The Good

Well, we've all got a DS. So now those of us old enough to remember the glory of Final Fantasy II way back in 1992 can replay their favorite RPG every morning, noon, and night on their DS. Great game, with an extra, massive dungeon tacked on to the end after you've defeated Zeromus. It is not of the same sublime quality as the original 1992 content, but it's still worth playing through.

The Bad

There's nothing to dislike about this game. I have read a review that criticized its outdated graphics, but for me, the sprites and chibi characters are all part of the appeal. What can't be disputed, though is the enduring charm of the soundtrack, and the challenge, pacing, and story progression of the game itself. I have beaten Final Fantasy IV, whether on the Super Nintendo, PlayStation, and now DS, a good dozen times, and each time is as satisfying as the last.

The Bottom Line

A great, great game with nearly-immortal appeal.
