So is it any fun to play? Well, I was certainly entertained, as there’s always something to do - a previously undiscovered room to explore, new things to do with the spells you learn along the way (which you find out for yourself just by wandering about on your own, or just speaking to the other students). All in all a lively and interesting experience, that’s quite immersive, especially for kids.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is a charming little game. There are floating books spread throughout the game boards, which allow players to save a game in progress. Harry can also collect Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans (which seem to come in every flavor), Chocolate Frogs, and Pumpkin Pasties will increase stamina, folio magi and health. There are many other items to collect, hidden in barrels, jars, bookcases and other items on the playing board.

Before playing this game, I had no previous experience with Harry Potter. I had never read any of the books, or seen the movie and I still found the game very enjoyable. However, playing through the game got me interested enough to read the book and see the movie - so I could only imagine how much fun a long time fan would have with the game. It may be a little difficult, but overall Harry Potter is a very good adventure game and worth playing.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is a pleasant enough little adventure for pleasant enough little people. Harry’s pixelated world is nicely re-created, with detailed textures and some nice character animations. The music is charming and catchy, albeit a bit monotonous. The control scheme is incredibly simplistic, even though the list-based menu system’s too long. If you aren’t a big fan of the book, you may have trouble locating certain people and objects during your quests. If you are, you’ll find this to be a delightful, if a little bland, adventure.

Getting through the various mazes is quite a challenge, but for all the wrong reasons. All of the elements that make this game difficult are essentially game-design flaws. While visually and aurally sound, and at times impressive, Harry Potter's GBA debut is neither innovative nor particularly compelling from a gameplay perspective. This game would make a decent rental for fans who can't get enough of the bespectacled young mage, but with so many excellent options available, there is no reason for any but the most die-hard of Harry Potter fans to pick this one up.

Synd!
