Atlus Super Dodge Ball Advance resurrects the NES classic putting all the addictive, ball chuckin fun into the palm of your hand. The game consists of two teams of four players standing within facing squares, and each team also has three more passers standing along the edge of your opponent’s square. Between jumping and dashing attacks, along with a mix of passes and super throws, gamers try to knock out the opposing four players. Single player mode allows you to travel around the world battling other teams to try and win the championship. But where Super Dodge Ball Advance really shines is in two-player link mode where all the most intense action occurs.

Schools are banning Dodge Ball. Wussy schools! If your kid misses beaning the wimps, or your kid wishes he could be the bully, your kid will like this one. Parents might even reminisce about the old Nintendo and Super Nintendo versions.

Super Dodge Ball Advance revives an old classic from the heyday of the NES and gives it a fresh new look and vibrant gameplay, and allows you to take gym class from fifth grade on the road anytime. SDBA lets you pick teams from all over the world to compete against other equally formidable opponents in one-match-stands or lengthy tournaments to decide who will ultimately reign as the king of dodgeball. With nice graphics and addictive gameplay to match, Atlus scores a hit with Super Dodge Ball Advance, a title you have to have if you own the portable gem that is the Game Boy Advance.

In addition to being a fun and straightforward game, SDBA is packed full of customizable options. Team and player names can all be changed while several game options (such as difficulty, offense, and defense) can all be adjusted up and down. An interesting addition to this version of the game is the ability to assign different styles to each of your players, which alters the attributes of the player in question. This can be used to strategically assign positions to each of your players.

Encore un très bon titre sur GBA qui a pour mérite de traiter d’un jeu de ballon peu représenté dans le paysage vidéo-ludique. C’est très fun à jouer, c’est agréable à regarder. Super Dodge Ball Advance est un bon jeu.

Super Dodge Ball includes exhibition, championship, and two-player versus modes of play. The rules in all these modes are the same: You have seven team members on the court--four on your side, and three behind the opposing team's sidelines. You have direct control over just one player at a time, while the computer handles the others. It intelligently switches your control between members in all the right situations, such that you're always doing the brunt of the work. You can pass the ball between any of your teammates at any point, but ultimately, you're going to end up throwing it at one of the four guys on the other side of the court. The harder you hit him, the more health he loses. When he runs out of health, a little angel floats up off the screen, and he's out of the match. It's pretty easy to catch a regular throw if you're on the receiving end; you just press B just before you're hit.

Super Dodge Ball was always a game that lived and fried on its gameplay over graphics and sounds, so I'll just whisk one by those categories really quick before I hit the real spot of the game. Visually, it's not a breakthrough for the system and doesn't really offer the same POW as other games on the GBA. Yet even though the game doesn't taste as yummy standing next to eye candy like Advance GT, the bright cartoon visuals are a nice throwback. Switching out the old Dodge Ball super-deformed kids with ugly faces for super-deformed kids with cute detailed faces and odd Japanese hats does good to give character to the teams (although some won't appreciate the younger look of characters).
