The overall game experience does have some merit, with some tricky "puzzle" elements that require more than the standard jump-and-run gameplay. So it's not all terrible. But Tak 2: The Staff of Dreams does nothing to stick its head out higher than the rest of the platform crowd beyond giving players another "Tak"-branded Game Boy Advance game. But since I can't recall anything but Tak-branded games, I can't imagine he's all that coveted a property to begin with.

Dommage.

Tak 2 is an average platformer that is really difficult to recommend to anyone other than fans of Tak. It's not bad but it's not very memorable. Do you have fond memories of KOA the Kangaroo? Probably forgot all about it didn't you? You can expect to forget Tak 2 in much the same way.

If you’re looking for a gift for a child, look elsewhere, unless you like watching them break systems. If you like platformers, this one does little to distinguish itself from the masses. If you like Tak, then go for the GameCube versions. If you like yourself, stay away from this game. One can only hope that they'll get it right next time.

Even past the level and character design, far past the broken gameplay, the makers have to be commended on the intuitive control scheme. With just a few buttons, you have a fairly diverse arsenal of powers and abilities at your command. Flying, rolling, shooting fireballs, all come like second nature soon after trying the game. Too bad this couldn't save Tak 2, which is truly a squandered opportunity.
