When ENCOM security is breached, the company calls on the digital world's number-one protector. Do battle in cyberspace in Tron 2.0: Killer App.

    • One storyline for each character
    • Multiplayer vehicle combat
    • Upgradeable characters
    • Unlock retro Tron minigames

The Corruptor, an evil virus, has set out to destroy. It's up to Tron and a young digital warrior, Mercury, to save the system from crashing.

Tron 2.0: Killer App brings back some of the most popular elements of the vintage Tron video games (light cycles, discs and tanks) and incorporates them into a cyber adventure. You can play as either Tron or Mercury. Tron's a master of the virtual tank while Mercury is a light-cycle program. Although both work toward the common goal of defeating The Corruptor, each faces different challenges.

To clear sectors, Tron enters tank grids while Mercury enters light cycle grids. Tron maneuvers through mazes while blasting other tanks. If you recall the classic Tron arcade game or the movie, you win a light-cycle battle when your opponent crashes into a track that either it or you made with a light cycle. Without a doubt, the light cycle grids are the most fun to play.

In addition to defeating viruses and other enemies as you walk around the mainframe's circuitry, you occasionally need to hack terminals. Here you solve puzzles in order to disable a security point or to access needed data. Also, Tron and Mercury collect chips as they move through the mainframe. Most boost Tron's and Mercury's abilities, but some unlock minigames. If you connect to a friend's Game Boy Advance through the Game Boy Advance Game Link Cable, you can trade chips.

When linked together, you and a friend can battle in the tank arena. Four players can compete in the light cycle arena. For old-school gamers, though, the game's real gems are the pixel-perfect versions of the Tron and Discs of Tron arcade games from the early 1980s.

    Bottom Line

Tron 2.0: Killer App will appeal to newbies and vets alike. The controls can be awkward at times, but it's always a thrill to hop in a light cycle and burn a trail.
