There's always room for good puzzle games on the Game Boy Color, and Chicken Run shows that the Lemmings-style of puzzle gameplay is alive and kicking. The game is quite simple -- get the chickens from point A to point B. Players have to navigate hazards like guard dogs and spotlights, using items like boxes and mirrors. It's an entertaining romp based on the movie, and puzzle fans will no doubt have a fun time trying to facilitate a fowl escape. Aside from some issues with the password save system and some play control problems, this is a fun little game that just about anyone will enjoy.

I'm super glad that Blitz Games (Chicken Run's developer) didn't cop out with a generic platformer, since we get plenty of that on the Game Boy side of things already. The design the team developed is a unique one, but it's not necessarily a great one -- the game putters along slowly, so it doesn't have a very maniacal, energetic feel to it like Lemmings does. The movie is excellent. The game is just slightly above average.

The only actually cool part of the other Chicken Run games was the many contraptions you had to construct from items found around the farm. Take that away, and you’re left with nothing more than a tedious game of hide-and-seek. In no way is this a game you need to play. Save your money for the DVD of the feature film.

In the end, a unique style and fun music doesn't save Chicken Run from being a relatively tedious experience, one best saved for only the most patient puzzle fans and those who loved the movie so much they just can't live without every little feather of Chicken Run memorabilia.
