If you're wondering which game is better, Fifa 2000 or Total Soccer 2000, they are both pretty good games so it is basically down to which style you prefer. I like both views, but I think that Total Soccer 2000 just nabbed it in my view. What won it for Total Soccer, or actually lost it for Fifa, was generally not being as playable in the actual games. Everything seemed much more hectic and much less smooth compared to Total Soccer, even after playing for a while it never really seemed to come close in playability terms. Although the inclusion of the indoor game did recover Fifa 2000 some of the lost ground, as it was a nice change from the usual 11 per side outdoor matches you normally get. Still you can't really fault either game too much, if they could just put all the great features of both games into one, you’d then have something to shout about. It’s worth getting, but I would consider Total Soccer 2000 before you buy.
The perfect difficulty, good graphics, and great gameplay make this a good game; the mechanics keep it from being a great one. One more good thing about it - as with all EA Sports games, you can use the Super Game Boy to play on the big screen. If you like soccer, give this on a try, just for kicks.
All Game Guide
Overall, if you're a soccer fan, even a casual one, and want a take-along game for your Game Boy or Game Boy Color, you can't go wrong with FIFA 2000.
The game could have been a modest success, as it has scores of teams to choose from, a bevy of options, and even an indoor soccer game that plays ten times faster than the regular form. But undercutting all of these features and ultimately sinking FIFA 2000 is poor control that makes the game harder to control than it needs to be.
In the end, the only way the game manages to be fun is if you imagine it as a sort of hybrid rugby-soccer game where the object is slide-clobbering your opponents. Occasionally, since it is rare, it feels really good to score as well. But I felt as if I were triumphing over the controls more than anything. The straight dope: FIFA 2000 is a weak effort that does not live up to its name. A total overhaul should be in order if FIFA 2001 is planned.
