Description

NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC is a 2D adaptation of the 3D console game. Like the original, it is a two-on-two arcade basketball game following the lineage of the NBA Jam series.

It includes all 29 teams of the 1999-2000 NBA season, with over 100 featured players. Modes include exhibition games, a full season, playoffs and a practice mode. Options have been reduced compared to NBA Jam 99: length of quarters and overtime as well as AI difficulty can be set, and music and sound effects be turned on or off.

Gameplay is seen from the side and follows the NBA Jam gameplay of old, with two buttons for passing and shooting (on defense, stealing and blocking) and a turbo button for faster running and enhanced actions, including spectacular over-the-top dunks. Season progress is saved via passwords, and the game includes several unlockable bonuses, including additional courts with a street or a jungle theme.

This arcade basketball game is exciting and fun to play!

The Good
If you are a fan of the original NBA Jam then you are sure to like this game. In this game you are able to do insane dunks and other ridiculous moves. The action is very fast paced and without any rules to stop the flow you are in for some high scoring NBA action. For beginner, there's a practice mode for you to polish your skills before you're ready to take on the best players in the world! Your objective is to guide your team through the season by beating all the other teams in your way. If the season is too long then you can just go right into the playoffs. If you just want to play a game against another team then you can do it in exhibition mode.

The Bad
The game is saved using passwords. I think that it is more convenient to have battery-backed memory although the trade-off would be you can no longer save your game when the battery runs out. Another thing I don't like is that this game doesn't support two players. All you can do is play against the computer. I think it's more fun to be able to humiliate your friends with your best moves!

The Bottom Line
This game is definitely worth buying because it is fun to play. You are sure to enjoy the high flying action with rim-rattling jams and clutch treys. If you are a basketball fan than this is a must-have in your collection. Even if you're not one you might find yourself getting hooked by playing this exciting basketball game.
