Evil mastermind Ace directs the Gangreen Gang in a despicable plot to terrify the normally cheerful and productive citizenry of Townsville. Being bullies down to the tips of their sneaker-clad feet, the Gangreeners start off by picking on someones not their own size: namely, the sweet-tempered young scholars of Pokey Oaks Kindergarten.Whoops! They've forgotten about Townsville's most ferocious sister act. In this, one of three PowerPuff Girls games from Bay Area Multimedia, battling brunette Buttercup takes on the Gangreen Gang single-handedly. The rambunctious action zips from the kindergarten, where Buttercup must free the kindly, Ms. Keane, to the Townsville Art Museum, Subway, Streets and Dump. Additional areas can be unlocked by using passwords broadcast during "The PowerPuff Girls" show on the Cartoon Network.
The other PowerPuff Paks are Bad Mojo Jojo, in which Blossom makes crazed chimp Mojo Jojo see red, and Battle Him, which headlines Bubbles. Friends with two Game Boy Color systems, two PowerPuff Girls Paks and a Game Link Cable can swap electronic cards depicting scenes from the show.
Paint the Townsville Green catches the funky look and feel of the show, although Buttercup is awfully small. With uninspired level design and so-so flying controls, this game is recommended for PowerPuff freaks only. Bay Area Multimedia appears to be betting that there are about five zillion of them, and they're probably right.
The PowerPuff Girls: Paint the Townsville Green is for Game Boy Color only. The game is not compatible with monochrome Game Boy systems.
