Fluid animation and A-grade control peg this Pak as the alpha dog of hand-held fighters. Far subtler than your run-of-the-mill button masher, Street Fighter Alpha puts a premium on precision timing and evasive maneuvers. Fortunately, a Training Mode will help school your street smarts.
You can enter the arena with a choice of 10 combatants:
Each combatant has unique strengths and weaknesses. For example, Birdie and Sodom are powerful but slow, while Rose has a powerful special attack.
Once you've polished your basic moves, combos and Alpha Counters in Training Mode, move on to the real action in Arcade Mode. The CPU will randomly select a rival for you. Default matches go three rounds.
Port specialist Crawfish Interactive has cleverly crammed in six basic punches, including jabs, roundhouses and uppercuts, and seven kinds of kicks, including spin, high and jump kicks. Other deft moves at your disposal include taunts (one per round, please), throws and recoveries. You can unleash a devastating Super Combo when your spirit meter peaks.
Street Fighter Alpha delivers a big punch in a small package. Street Fighter Alpha will only work with Game Boy Color. It is not backwards compatible with monochrome Game Boy units.
