The deepest racing game we've run into for Game Boy, Test Drive 6 doesn't look like much, but it has some serious surprises under the hood. Played from a three-quarter overhead perspective that brings memories of early Atari 2600 games to mind, there is still enough detail to differentiate cars by model and to recognize each of the dozen cities. In fact, the tournament mode let us tour the cities, raise money, upgrade our rides and buy new cars. That first spin in a new Dodge Viper felt completely different from the old Charger we began the game with, making all the work well worth it. And when we got bored with racing around in circles, we joined the police force, giving out citations for a bit of extra cash. It is really a shame that the graphics seem to have been sacrificed to make it playable on the original Game Boy, but the number of features and a perfectly balanced difficulty curve make Test Drive 6 an experience that any race fan will appreciate.
Pocket Magazine / Pockett Videogames
Nintendo Power Magazine
Accolade's driving franchise comes to Game Boy Color now that Accolade has joined with Infogrames. The overhead perspective is reminiscent of Mickey's Racing Adventure, but the control is even more sluggish.
All Game Guide
Overall, this is a mediocre racing game which isn't very challenging.
