Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge

I thought the original Castlevania was good, but this is even better! There are loads of things to uncover, including secret screens, and it's a non-stop battle all the way to beat Drac! If you're a platform addict, put this at the top of your shopping list immediately.

Castlevania II: Belmont’s Revenge is a great platform adventure game, more than worthy of carrying the Castlevania mantle. You will be hard pressed to find a better adventure on the system. If there's a flaw, it might be that it’s slightly easy. But it’s an absolute blast to play, especially on long trips, and that alone, makes it an essential part of any portable player’s game library.

En conclusión, Castlevania Adventures 2: Belmont's Revenge es un gran juego, sin duda alguna el mejor Castlevania para la plataforma, sólido en jugabilidad y en lo técnico, desafiante, aunque no imposible, con un diseño de niveles excelente, una historia interesante -pero poco desarrollada-, y escenarios variadísimos, nunca haremos lo mismo. Si te gusta la saga, hazte con él, es un punto fijo en tu catálogo, de lo contrario siempre puedes tirar de emulador, aunque pierde la magia.

Alle kleinen Mißlichkeiten, die man im ersten Teil noch bemängeln konnte, wurden konsequent ausgemerzt. Der Spielablauf ist nun wesentlich flotter und nicht mehr so träge. Natürlich wurden auch Grafik und Umfang aufgepeppt. Nachdem man drei der vier Anwähl-Levels absolviert hat, wächst buchstäblich ein neues Schloß aus dem Boden - atmosphärisch sehr schön gelöst. Gut gekontert haben auch die Musiker. Wurde das düstere Szenario schon im ersten Abenteuer akustisch gekonnt untermalt, müssen die Songs im zweiten Teil keinen Vergleich scheuen. Übrigens: Wer im Paßwortmenü viermal ein Herzchen als Symbol eingibt, der kommt in ein Soundmenü: Probehören sehr empfohlen. Wie man es von Konami gewohnt ist, sind sämtliche Spielabschnitte harmonisch, fair und intelligent aufgebaut. Das einzige, was mir abgeht, sind ein paar zusätzliche Überraschungselemente.

This is about as good as an action game can get on the GameBoy. Those who are familiar with the original GB version will find A LOT in common with the sequel, that doesn't diminish the payoff of a game with rich backgrounds, detailed characters and fast-paced play techniques.

Once again a Belmont must rely on his courage and quickness. He'll have the aid of the Mystic Whip, a Battle Axe and explosive bottles of Holy Water. There are some new moves, too, like the ability to slide down ropes. The game controls are better than ever, but the challenges are also greater. So enter the haunted realm, if you dare.

For the average Castlevania fan, this game will be the only one they really recognise on the Game Boy as it's most like the console games. Personally, I found it a bit easy. Of course, this comes from playing CV Lengends prior to this game. Nevertheless, this game holds its ground as one of the best portable Castlevania games.
