There's nothing better in a video game world than a well-done side-scroller and this is one well-done side-scroller. If you're a fan of Mario's, then rush out and get Wario Land. If not, check it out anyway. There's enough fun here for everyone.

Well Wario Land is quite different from the other Mario titles as Wario can "charge" down his enemies and then pick them up and throw them at other enemies. Wario can also stomp on the enemies like Mario and can fly and "breath fire" using special "hat powerups". The courses isn´t just a matter of getting from point A to B because on all the courses you must find a special coin so that you can open the exit gate. The game is big and average hard. Personally I think Wario Land is the best of the 3 Mario Land games!

He looks cumbersome but the powers of his head-dress collection provide the opportunity for a great deal of skillful exploration. Wario Land is still no match for Super Mario World on the Super NES. This, it seems, is a luxury Game Boy owners are never to have. However what this game does offer in large amounts is fun gameplay. The big bloke is always kept busy with something - be it trying to figure a way to attain a certain level or simply aiming bombs at hapless islanders in one of the two entertaining sub-games. Certainly praise for Wario Land goes beyond those expected of it. Yes it's another platform game stretching the Mario Land theme yet further, but Wario Land's steadfast quality is undeniable.

I still miss Mario, but I'm glad to have the chance to get to know Wario. His clenched fists and crinkly curled "Snidley-Whiplash" grin give me the impression that not only could he hold his own against the plumb plumber, but he could also take out Sonic in a fight. Besides, his greedy grab-all-the-coins attitude might just make Wario a better Nintendo spokesperson than Mario.

Wario Land still has what it takes to stack up against the platformers of today. A classic through and through, this is just one of those games that no Game Boy should be without.

The fact is, Wario Land never works completely. It is a very easy game that hasn't quite found its direction, and yet it packs the tiny Game Boy screen with as much personality as anything else Nintendo had put out. Wario was simply born to be a star, and he doesn't have to bring any wanna-be in blue overalls with him anymore. Wario Land marked the end of original handheld Mario games until 2006's New Super Mario Bros. – and as long as Wario was there, I could hardly miss him.

At the end of the day, Wario Land does a lot right. It's a great handheld title, even today, and it could manage four-to-five hours of play by itself. It gives you everything you need to know about everyone's favorite anti-hero before he became a CEO of a videogame giant. It's not the most memorable title Wario has thrown himself into, but it's a damn good one, and it really makes me wonder why I love that fat, egotistic, greedy, uncultured, disgusting, abusive, lazy, homoerotic, unkempt slob of a jackass of a princess so much.

Wario is a great twist on the typical Mario theme. Best of all, it's all new and that is what I want to see in a game. The music is pretty good, and it's a nice change from the usual Mario theme. It controls well, but Wario looks like a big blur on the screen, and this adds to the difficulty. The play mechanics are just right and as usual Nintendo comes through with another hit. Now how about this on Super NES?
