According to Actiontrip's review of the game one can hear the fans sing the name "Dinko Šakić". Šakić was a Crotian concentration camp commander in WW2. Since 1998 he is in a Croatian prison after having been tracked down by the Nazi hunter Efraim Zuroff.

Goalkeeper Oliver Kahn, from club Bayern München, and the German national team sued Electronic Arts over the use of his name and portrait without permission in this game. In April 2003, a judge ruled that his claim was warranted and in January 2004 it was confirmed in another trial in Hamburg.
