This is a game that will most likely get passed over by the majority of gamers, believing it's standard kids fare. It's not. Well, it is in a sense, but the gameplay can keep any platforming fan happy. It's very easy to look like a pro swinging from vines, rescuing monkeys, and taking out poachers with arrows, even if you've never played it before. That's a sense of accomplished bigger-budgeted titles have trouble achieving.
GameSpy (Feb 03, 2002)
All in all, Tarzan Untamed is a good game for kids. Since that's the target for this title, then it gets higher marks than it would otherwise. Still, even kids expect a bit more from games than this one delivers. With minimal replay value, you might opt to rent this one first to make sure it's something your kids will like before shelling out the $50 for it at retail.

Game Chronicles (Jun 16, 2002)
Tarzan Untamed treads on the thin line of targeting kids that might not be old enough to handle the challenging gameplay while alienating the older crowd who will find this game simply too easy, frustrating, or both. It’s a definite rental but think twice before you buy.

Nintendojo (2002)
I had hopes for Tarzan Untamed. It was a dark horse in Nintendo's impressive launch lineup, with a new take on the tired 3D platformer genre. Visually, it does Disney's Tarzan justice. Unfortunately, Ubi Soft's final product is simply too short and shallow to justify a purchase for most gamers.
IGN (Nov 20, 2001)
Gamers have always wanted to go half-naked into the jungles and mingle happily with apes and monkeys. Publisher Ubi Soft knows their desires all too well -- sick as they may be, and it's with this in mind that it has developed Tarzan Untamed, a 3D action-platformer based on the Disney Tarzan feature film. The game follows an all-new storyline, features a variety of different play modes and proudly boasts a superbly produced cartoon style similar to the movie. But in the end it's a title that's nearly as simple as the ape-man himself, and it's primarily for this reason that it comes recommended as a rental to most.
GameSpot (Dec 06, 2001)
All in all, this is a great game for children and perhaps for adults looking for a quick rental, but it's certainly not something you'd induct into your permanent collection. Ubi Soft has not made a bad game out of Disney's Tarzan Untamed, but it's not necessarily groundbreaking either.
