The levels may be short, but so in the learning curve. Players will find themselves pulled through the linear game with anticipation. Sure, there are a few little setbacks, but those are easily overlooked. Graphically wonderful, with a great co-op mode, makes for a truly enjoyable gaming experience.

Fantastic 4 is a fun and challenging video game, loosely based on the upcoming movie with a very entertaining and totally original script that expands upon the origins story of the film. The graphics may be hit and miss, but they are solid where it counts; in the gameplay, and the sound effects again, are merely average, but the two-player co-op mode is awesomely fun for gamers that are fans of the famed comic book series or action fans in general.

A long list of unlockable secrets add some decent replay potential, but it's debatable whether you'll really want to keep at it for that long. As a movie license, the game is certainly not the disaster it could have been. But as a re-imagining of Stan Lee's first classic superteam, it could have been so much more.

I cannot recommend Fantastic Four for PC, because it doesn't hold a candle to superior superhero games like Freedom Force or City of Heroes, both in level design and control. I can recommend it on console, if you can endure the weak points long enough to get to clobberin' time.

The Fantastic Four has always been one of the most underappreciated franchises in Marvel's vast library. Now the super-powered family gets to bask in the limelight it so richly deserves. And thanks to some solid design and attention to detail, gamers everywhere can finally experience for themselves the reasons that the team is just as entertaining now as it was four decades ago.

The only clobberin' that this game does is on your ego for playing it. Marvel's mighty first family has essentially been reduced to a poor man's X-Men Legends.

Fantastic 4 is a passable action game with some interesting ideas. The action feels solid and the co-op mode offers an intersting twist. The team work aspect, even in single player, delivers something you won't find in most action brawlers. There's also plenty of variety in terms of enemy design and special moves, but it sometimes feels cosmetic. Still, you can't help but feel there's something missing in Fantastic 4. All the characters and powers are here, as are the villains from the movie and comic. Yet much of the game just doesn't make you feel (cough, cough) fantastic. You can't run around stretching from room to room as Mr. Fantastic, for example, and while the Human Torch can hover, he never really takes flight.

Though Fantastic 4 does offer all the elements of a good beat-'em-up game on paper, the execution of those features leaves something to be desired. The result is instead a short, bland-looking game that doesn't give many compelling reasons for a purchase. If you're really into the movie or the comic and can look past drab environments and controls that aren't as crisp as they should be, then Fantastic 4 might be worth a rent, but not much more.

Obviously hardcore Fantastic Four fans will have to settle for this, being it is the only Fantastic Four game for the more-than-foreseeable future. For every other type of gamer, however, Fantastic Four is a very mediocre game, offering nothing you can’t find in some other adventure game. Finding a game much more enjoyable is not hard.

If you're looking for an interactive movie or something along the lines of a street fighting game like Capcom's Final Fight then you might find some satisfaction here. For the rest of you, rent it first.

Overall, Fantastic 4 continues the proud tradition of mediocrity set by the majority of both movie-based and superhero games. It is sad that such great superheroes as the Fantastic 4 should catch the double whammy of average movie and game. It is also unfortunate that the casual gamer, who is making many of his buying decisions based solely on his recognition of a license, is going to get stuck with this gobbler.

Game Revolution
That’s a lot more than can be said for the rest of the game. Even though kicking enemy butt can be satisfying and there are a lot of big, menacing monsters to face, Fantastic Four is merchandising at its finest, a hollow game that's beatable in eight hours and isn't replayable at all. We don’t expect you to enjoy it. We don’t expect you to buy it, either.
