Freedom Fighters

While the game could have been lengthier, Freedom Fighters is still just an outstanding blend of pure action and tactical squad combat. The squad control works incredibly well, making it easy even if you haven't had much experience with squad-based games in the past. Anyone looking for thrilling action with refined control and a great premise need look no further than Freedom Fighters.

Freedom Fighters in a strategy shooter; this is where, not running straight into battles is your best choice. In Freedom Fighters you play as Chris Stone. Stone is a Brooklyn plumber (cough* super mario bros *cough), who gets caught up in the conquest of America by The Soviet Union. While going to fix a lady’s plumbing Stone’s brother is caught by the Soviet army. So he must save him, and become the leader of the newest revolution of the United States.

Zu Beginn des Spiels war ich sofort von der total einfachen Steuerung überrascht. Es dauert wirklich nicht lange, dann kann man im Schlaf seinen Gefolgsleuten Befehle erteilen. Aber nicht nur in diesem Bereich kann der Titel punkten. Die tolle Atmosphäre derStraßenschlachten mit den Roten inmitten von Manhattan ist wirklich gut gelungen. Einen großen Teil dazu trägt der hervorragende Soundtrack von Jesper Kyd bei. Aber wie bei fast jedem Spiel gibt es auch negative Seiten. Die künstliche Intelligenz der CPU-gesteuerten Partner lässt manchmal sehr zu wünschen übrig. Zu viert macht das Spiel zwar auch Spaß, nur hätte im Mehrspielermodus mehr drin sein müssen.

Io-Interactive’s Freedom Fighters grabbed me by the throat and just dragged me into an amazing gaming experience that I never thought would be. Its gameplay is addicting, intense, and simply enthralling. While short in length and a bit flawed, Freedom Fighters is worth some attention. Give it a rental at least.

Freedom Fighters is a game that gets better the more you play it. The challenge increases at the same rate as your skills and abilities so that you're really appreciating the level of control you've got towards the end and the cool action you can create because of it. Obviously an online component would be a wonderful addition but for what it is Freedom Fighters is pretty satisfying. You just wish your running, gunning and commanding skills, once developed, could be applied in other ways against online competitors.

The overall feel is great, although not as deep as one would hope. Regardless, EA has another winner on its roster that warrants a better sequel.

Un très bon jeu qui sort malheureusement un peu vite. Si de bonnes idées sont en effet présentes (l'assignation d'ordres à vos hommes étant la meilleure) et que l'ambiance est exquise, le gameplay n'a pas bénéficié d'assez de soins et l'IA des personnages se montre aussi bien très fine que défaillante suivant les passages. Mais au final Freedom Fighters est un titre accessible, qu'on lâche difficilement une fois le pad en mains et ce malgré les défauts évoqués plus avant.

I'm a bit torn on the final word for Freedom Fighters. I hated my first ten minutes with the game, but as I got used to the setup I began to enjoy it, and a few levels really had me begging for more. But the qualifications -- short length, lack of replay value, and control issues -- knock the game down value-wise, even though I think anyone who's attracted to quick, violent squad play will have a good time. Hopefully, this will be a template for further development that will better meld the GTA mold with squad command and the revolutionary spirit, but many people will consider this a rental.
