Goblin Commander: Unleash the Horde is the real-time strategy game I've been waiting for. It's got all of the features that make an RTS great, some entirely new features, and controls developed specifically for a game console. If you liked Command & Conquer or any other RTS that has been ported to a console then you must, at the very least, play this game as soon as possible. I recommend Goblin Commander to any RTS fan except for those PC nuts that want everything to be big and complex.

We're sure that you've surmised by now that Goblin Commander isn't without its own big list of flaws. From its unimpressive character models and camera issues to its small set of maps and lack of online play, it's definitely a product with room to grow. On the other side of the coin, however, there are plenty of positive aspects to the game as well. Be it the responsive controls and cleverly-balanced units that catch your fancy or the ability to take control of a single unit in smartly-designed maps that sound more like your speed, it's all a matter of what factors you find most important that will ultimately influence your buying decision. It's also worth noting that even with the two month delay for the GameCube version, Jaleco has left the game unchanged.

Real-time strategy is one genre that has yet to establish itself on consoles. Though ports have been made of PC classics like Command & Conquer and Starcraft, it's hard to call them outstanding games for consoles, because they were designed with mouse and keyboard input in mind. Jaleco's Goblin Commander: Unleash the Horde distinguishes itself with a surprisingly streamlined interface, in much the same way that Nintendo's Pikmin did two years ago. While PC strategy veterans will find that the gameplay is pretty basic, console owners starved for a real-time strategy game should find Goblin Commander to be a worthwhile experience.

A thing that I like about Goblin Commander is the ability to have the choice between the traditional "point and tap", like when using a mouse, or the ability to take control of a character and go directly into action controlling that character, while all of your other fighters tag along. As you would know, if you follow sports, offensive is as important as defense. While your titan (only one is allowed) is useful for attacking large buildings and demolishing melee attackers, turrets are great for defensive purposes. Goblin Commander has a few different character types, including light, medium, and heavy melee, long-range, and a healer, along with your titan.
