Breaking away from over-used spaghetti western archetypes, Gun draws its six shooters to deliver one of the most subversive, gripping, and powerful experiences to ever grace the West. Simply put, Sergio Leone would have killed for a script like this.

Game industry News (GiN)
Gun offers some variety in a packed genre, something anyone can appreciate. You can finish the game in about ten hours, and that is doing every single side mission available, so it might leave you wanting a bit more. But nobody should feel like they did not get their money's worth with this well-made title.

Gun is a neat little package. You're treated to an interesting plot, fun, sandbox-style gameplay, and atmosphere thick enough to choke a horse. It's honestly one of the most fun titles out there, and occasionally so over-the-top as to be downright hilarious. Gun fighting on horseback is fun, too, and is reason enough to give Gun a try. It nails the Deadwood-style Western pretty well, and isn't the kind of game to pull its punches. It's big, it's gory, it's violent, and it's fun. Go get it.

Neversoft has show that it knows how to craft good gameplay though its Tony Hawk series. But with Gun, the developer also drew on its experience while also focusing in on the details that make a grand stand out and grab people in order to create an adventure that is worth playing.

Game Chronicles
GUN is the best western action-adventure game to date. With its go-anywhere, shoot/do-anything gameplay, it’s like Grand Theft Auto Wild-Wild West style. The graphics are a big disappointment, but the amazing animation, presentation, and sound make up for its downfalls.

Any fan of the old West is sure to appreciate the effort that went into this game. Unraveling the mystery of the storyline is also certain to capture the imagination of a wide range of gamers. Gun may be a little rough around the edges but remember mister, you don't order a Crème de Menthe in a saloon if you want to live to tell the tale.

GUN shows that Neversoft has the potential to be very successful once the Tony Hawk well has run completely dry and they have to move on to other projects. Sure, GUN isn’t without faults -- the gunplay could use some tightening and the environments could be filled in a little better, but those flaws are more than covered by an amazing story and great voicing. GUN is a worthwhile experience that shows that Neversoft’s inevitable future of non-Tony Hawk projects have promise.

Thanks to one of the best storylines we've seen in quite a while (as well as a heaping helping of good old-fashioned violence), Gun isn't a gaming experience that we'll soon forget. You'll likely be so enthralled by the riveting story that you simply won't notice the hours flying by. Of course, that's also due in no small part to the fact that the game is unsatisfyingly short. There's worse things to be, however, and this is one of those rare games that actually deserves a sequel. If they can give us more of what we want next time, Neversoft might be able to create gaming's first Western masterpiece.

After seven years of solely making Tony Hawk games, Neversoft, the Southern California developer that's made a mint on perfecting the best skateboarding games on the planet, has branched into new territory with a rowdy, spirited action game based on the Wild West. The subject matter of Old West shooters is hugely popular with gamers, who anxiously awaited Rockstar's Red Dead Revolver last year and have shown substantial interest in more Western goodness.

Adventure Lantern
All in all, I’d have to classify this game in the “must rent” category. There’s no replay value whatsoever; therefore, don’t shell out the cash to buy it. Still, there is little opportunity to play anything else quite like this, and it can be finished during a routine rental period. I have high hopes for GUN 2, if there ever is one.

Game Revolution
All this, in the end, is what your lower-class card rooms would call 'piddly sh*t'. Gun is a solid game that, on all platforms, performs admirably, draws you into the story, takes itself (and you) seriously, and does the genre proud. It's too thin around the waist to really tangle with the big boys, but let's all pray that some new development house picks up Neversoft's Western-themed token, to cash it in wisely at some gaming den of sin.

GameSpot
Despite a great presentation that'll likely give a very positive first impression, Gun ultimately offers too little content for it to be a truly satisfying game. Most all of the right ingredients are here in some quantity. But the hastily delivered storyline (which, fittingly, concludes with an incredibly abrupt ending) and the lack of any real depth to the gameworld make Gun much better suited for some quick, fleeting thrills instead of for the long haul.
