These minor quibbles aside, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is certainly the most all-out fun game to come down the pike in quite a while. I can only hope that the game's success will encourage EA to rethink its cancellation of the online game. I mean, right now I just run around my yard, dressed in my hand-stitched (but utterly authentic!) Ravenclaw Quidditch robes, chasing a tennis ball. I look like a total goob.

Everyone's here waiting to greet you: Hagrid, Hermione, Dumbledore and, unfortunately, even Draco and his sidekicks Crabbe and Goyle. So grab your Cloak of Invisibility and let yourself be swept away by a game that is as magical to play as was the book to read.

What I liked best about the game was the ease of play. You didn’t have to fumble through spells to see what works. If a spell could be cast, the appropriate spell would be used automatically. The challenges increased with difficulty as the game progressed which gave it that I gotta try one more time feel. However with no multi-player, and virtually no replay ability after you have solved it, hardcore gamers may stay away from it. But, if you are one of the millions of people who are devoted Harry Potter fans whether it be the movie, or the books. By all means you absolutely have to check this out!

It is probably clear from the above that this is not really an adventure game. Though it has plenty of exciting places to explore, it has the feel of an action arcade or platform game. Those sequences though are clearly designed not to bog you down in complex manoeuvres, but rather bring a bit of 12 year old rambuctiousness to proceedings. As such, like all things Potter it is first and foremost for children, and is best shared and enjoyed with them.

The video game falls short of the quality Potter fans expect, and provides nothing more than a simple platform/adventure game that young fans will adore, but older fans will feel disappointed with.

Keeping in mind that the game stays fairly true to the book, but does take some liberties to keep the pace going, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is a spell worth learning.

From the looks of it, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone makes use of the Unreal engine, and it looks quite sharp because of it. The character models are quite well-detailed, with a mix of 'big-headed anime' and standard design. The environments are also quite well-done, even if they tend to be rather repetitive; the inside of Hogwarts is quite self-similar, as are many of the areas that you go to outside of the school. It looks nice enough, though.

I think that die-hard Potter fans will be able to forgive the shortcomings in search of a fun adventure, which is definitely in place, if a little hidden. But given all of the drawbacks I can't recommend The Sorcerer's Stone as I did Chamber of Secrets, and I think anybody new to the Potter universe would be far better served with Eurocom's superior title.

This game does give a nod in the most stripped-down, basic way to the plot of its namesake bestselling novel. Its first attempt involves encapsulating the first 112 pages of said novel in a two-minute parade of ivory and black ink flashcard-like pages as the game begins. These are supposed to bring the player up to speed on Harry's whole history and background.

When the movie Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone first arrives in theatres, I have decided to pass on it. It seems then that I must be among the handful of people left in this universe who have never read Harry Potter. When I see the movie on video later on, I immediately start reading the books and devour them in a matter of days. The single thought that keeps going through my head is what a great game this can make. The thought of exploring Hogwarts and playing a game of Quidditch seems like a dream game. With the huge fan base of Harry Potter, it is just a matter of time before such a game hits the shelves—and what a game it is, if you are able to overlook some minor issues along the way.

While the adventure is quite entertaining, it is most definitely made for children. It simply won't fully stimulate most teen or adult gamers. Conversely, a 7 year old would probably play with a Harry Potter cheese log if it were advertised correctly. In short, this is not a horrible game, nor is it incredible. With such a rich palette of imagination to work with, the game developers took an easy way out rather than creating something revolutionary. Still, if you want a nice relaxing game to jump into, or your kids need something to do, hop onto Platform 9 3/4.

Harry Potter is not an awful rip-off as a blatant attempt to slap a licensing name on something to make a quick buck. Fans of Harry Potter will certainly enjoy the game. It's not the greatest experience with enough frustrations with gameplay, saving, and bugs to keep this title from rising to the top of the fray as an excellent over all game. But enough of me, let's tally up the points: Let's see... 40 to start minus... add 15... carry the one... mumble mumble... leaving us with a grand total of 55 points for Gryffindor. Not enough to win the house cup, I'm afraid. Rather, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is lodged firmly into the middle ground between excellent and awful, leaving us with a solidly okay title.

WindowsGameSpot
Ultimately, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone doesn't have the widespread appeal of its literary namesake and is suitable only for children. When compared with the many stellar gameplay experiences available to PC gamers today, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone underwhelms with an extremely brief story, overly simplistic platform jumping sequences, and repetitive gameplay. Then again, children ready to move on from purely educational PC games to those that are purely entertaining will likely enjoy Harry's first PC adventure, but older players captivated by Rowling's first tale would be better served by reading the novel's three sequels or by seeing the movie again.
