Summary

One of the best Game-cube games I've played

The Good

At a glance Kirby Air Ride seems like just another racing game brought on by a popular franchise, but the game has a bit more to offer. Instead of just racing players are given 3 different gameplay modes including the normal race / combat sequence, a miniature side-scrolling like race, and City Trial mode. In "City Trial" mode players roam an open level collecting upgrades for their vehicles to later compete in games and matches that determine the winner of the City Trial. An event or twist always occurs during a city match, some that will effect players or the items around them. Objects, such as pillars or meteors will occasionally appear in the level. Another City Trial objective is to find pieces to complete the two Mega-stars Hydra and Dragoon. There is also a free roam option for practice with the different vehicles.

Another thing the game offers is a diversity in vehicles. Each star is different in it's strengths and weaknesses. Some may be faster, slower, stronger, weaker, or better at maneuvering or gliding. These different attributes can often be used as an advantage in different side games.

Though the game is extremely fun it can get a but tiresome, but if there is one thing that will keep you playing it is the achievements. After playing a match in one of the 3 game modes a list of achievements that have been unlocked will appear. These achievements will often unlock new vehicles, stages, and characters.

The Bad

There really isn't too much to complain about with this game except that it doesn't provide much fun on single player. But the game is intended for multi-player so be sure to get a few friends together and this game won't disappoint.

The Bottom Line

If you enjoyed the many Mario Karts and the Crash Team Racings then Kirby Air Ride is a guaranteed enjoyment.
