Like every game, this game has it's flaws, but they aren't stand out game killers, they're "We tried something new" flaws. Sure more unlockable content like characters and costumes would be well received, but again, the game doesn't really suffer for lack of it. Marvel Nemesis takes minutes to learn and months to master, and it provides a well rounded and, most importantly, fun experience, if you know what you are getting into. This is not your standard "toe-to-toe", best of three 90-second matches, combo cruncher, this is "kill or be killed" Marvel mayhem.

If Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects had a better implemented single-player portion, the game could be easily recommended. The actual combat is very quick, very exciting and thoroughly enjoyed. The game also includes a lot of content to please Marvel fans. Unfortunately, the single-player mode is required to get access to additional characters for the one-on-one mode and simply isn’t very fun. If you can battle with the single-player mode while you earn the unlockables, Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects will provide tons of fun.

Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects is a pretty cool fighting game. I think the biggest draw of the game is the characters. Without them, the game would be just another average beat-em up that would be getting the attention the game is getting now. The Story mode was a great idea that just fell short in its execution. The fighting was a little bit shallow, but it was still fun. Hopefully there will be better games to be found online as well. I would recommend checking this game out, but I would definitely suggest renting it before buying it.

All of my harsh words are intended to scare away all but the most faithful, for whom I honestly think Rise of the Imperfects might be worth a look. Despite some glaring problems, there's definitely joy to be found in the endless stream of unlockables that the game contains. Keep your expectations in check, and there's some fun in the mayhem.

If you take the time to learn some combinations with characters, everyone else already figured them out as well. If you think you'd like Marvel Nemesis, rent it beforehand and see if the versus mode is enough for you, but I'd wait until it goes down to $20 to buy. A rental should be enough for your fix.

Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects could have been a decent beat-'em-up game that provided some great fan service, if its poor single-player scenario hadn't unhinged the entire process. This game has tons of content, great characters, and simple controls, suggesting that it was designed with more casual players and/or Marvel fans to pick up and immediately enjoy--but the ragged gameplay mechanics and balance issues that infest the one-player game will likely frustrate this very same audience to no end. If you're a patient player that's into the subject material, you'll probably get some benefit out of Marvel Nemesis, thanks to the wealth of comic book goodies and the solid online fighting. All others should approach this game with caution, because there are certainly better beat-'em-up fighters out there.

Like a spandex suit held together with bubblegum and staples, Marvel Nemesis just comes apart in all the wrong places and leaves you dangling.

Sorry, but with X-Men Legends II: Rise of the Apocalypse, Ultimate Spider-Man and the recently released Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction on storeshelves, EA's collaboration with Marvel just pales in comparison in every department, save graphics. If you have trouble figuring out the intricate mechanics of turning the pages of a comic book, Marvel Nemesis might sink your battleship, but the rest of you should avoid it like being tickled by Logan's claws. If you're a diehard Marvel fan, by all means rent the game and get your flame on, but don't be investing cash in this for the long term.

Game Over Online
Marvel Nemesis is a good-looking game that should've focused on one thing above all others. It might've been a good four-player arena combat game; it could've done all right as a mission-based beat-'em-up; and it's just barely possible that this might've worked as a 3D platformer starring Marvel's characters. As a game that tries to be all of those things at once, it's about as fun as gargling mayonnaise. Avoid it.

In the end, Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects for the GameCube doesn’t truly rise above its various imperfections that plague a game that could have been a fan favorite. It’s disappointing to see such potential fall flat seeing as the game does manage to surprise us with a great lineup of Marvel characters and familiar landscapes. If you’re willing to put up with the simplified controls and bad opponent AI, this game might be fun as a quick rental. If it’s a solid fighter you crave, this is not the game you’re looking for.

This game is a stinker. As a one on one beat-'em-up, it plays like a moronic Powerstone (running around huge arenas chucking objects at each other) but with none of the charm. Then in the Story mode, it scrapes the rancid bottom of the scrolling beat-'em-up barrel and smears it over tens of levels of sheer tedium. There's a bit where you punch some robots, right, and that's about as exciting as it gets.

If it weren't for the high-end production values and full-bodied online modes in the PS2 and Xbox version, Marvel Nemesis would have been a bad game in every sense of the word (leaving GameCube owners not so lucky either way). But even with the benefit of that nice online mode and some great presentational bits, it doesn't change the fact that Rise of the Imperfects is nothing more than a ho-hum experience that looks painfully ordinary when compared to the rest of this season's excellent comic games. A general populace that doesn't play a lot of videogames may be able to forgive this, but as someone who reads comics and plays videogames on a pretty regular basis, I cannot.

Marvel Nemesis is a big waste. Given the Marvel licence and EA's generally solid production values, the end result is rather surprising. The lure of big name superheroes due to the current interest in them (It appears that every other summer movie features superheroes) may well see this sell enough copies to green light a sequel, but I just hope they take a long look at what they did wrong and develop something that can match the series' potential.
