A true contender for Game of the Year for 2003, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a masterfully executed mixture of puzzles, platforming and simple yet engaging combat.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has been gathering all sorts of hype since its debut at the 2003 Electronics Entertainment Expo. Ubi Soft has taken the aging series and given it a brand new life. Though it is a short game, The Sands of Time is an absolutely must play for its fluid, exciting gameplay and breathtaking story.

Since the downward spiral of the Tomb Raider franchise, I've become a little disillusioned with the platform adventure genre, but Prince of Persia has reinvigorated my love for this type of game. Some games get by on enticing the player to continue through the promise of unlockable items, but Prince of Persia: Sands of Time is one game that will make even the most jaded game feel sheer joy from just swinging from one pole to the next. A true classic that will stand the test of time.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is one of the "must have" games of the year. Every thing about this game is fantastic, from the beautiful graphics to the well-planned level designs to the smoothness of the controls. Some games focus on graphics and effects, while others concentrate more on the story and gameplay. This is one of those rare offerings that proves a game can have it all.

In the end, this game is perhaps my personal favorite of the year. This is a game you just can't put down. Constantly, I found myself just thinking "go to the next save point and then go to bed." But you can't do that. Ultimately, this is an addictive game that is beautiful to look at and extremely fun to play.

Game Chronicles
Regardless of which system you own this is a game that should be in everyone’s gaming library. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a landmark achievement in game design starting with the addictively fun core gameplay, instinctive controls, then rounding out the package with gorgeous visuals, stunning special effects, and professional sound work.

"Wow!"

We must have uttered this single word to ourselves on 100 different occasions during the time we spent playing through Ubi Soft's masterful new action-adventure, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. This breathtaking 3D sequel to creator Jordan Mechner's classic titles is very faithful to its predecessors and simultaneously new and innovative in remarkably creative ways. It bears some resemblance to other outstanding adventure games such as Ico and yes, even Zelda, but mostly it's a spectacular extension -- in, fact, the evolution of -- the Prince of Persia franchise. It's also one of the very best titles of the year.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a MUST HAVE game if you own a GameCube. Every aspect of this game is outstanding, the concept, level designs, controls, graphics, ect. I can go on and on about how wonderful this game is, but you probably guess that already. What are you waiting for, go buy this game NOW! You will not regret it trust me!

Worth Playing
The gameplay is solid and innovative. It is graphically stunning. The music, while muted, compliments the rest of the game design. The use of the rewind button is clever and implemented well into a game that would otherwise be frustrating. All of these parts added together leave the gamer with a game of truly high adventure. There is substance backing this game's overflow of style, which in today's saturated adventure game market, makes this title stand out. If you own multiple platforms, I would recommend trying it out before settling on one. If you only have a Gamecube then you simply must add this one to your library as it is that good. POP deserves to be mentioned in the same sentence as Wind Waker and Metroid Prime.

This game is worth your time and attention. Once again props go out to Ubisoft Montreal for meshing environments with an outstanding control scheme and stunning graphics. It’s a formula that worked for Splinter Cell and it works exceptionally well for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. The Prince is a title worth owning this Christmas.

Bless you, Jordan Mechner You single-handedly managed to revitalize the action platformer genre with your puzzle-ridden romp through Eastern kingdoms. Personally, I look back with fondness on Prince of Persia: It was one of the games that I constantly played on lunch breaks or free periods in school. It was also one of the titles that taught me a lot of the backdoors of the Windows file structure, as my friends and I constantly hid playable copies in our network accounts from the watchful eyes of the computer lab staff. Unfortunately, only two sequels followed within 5 years, leaving fans of the swashbuckling adventure series hanging without their Persian fix. Now, 10 years later, Mechner's series returns with a vengeance to next-generation systems and computers with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

Some of you reading this will need no more than "Ico with good combat and witty dialogue" to understand why Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is getting the second-highest score possible. The rest will need a little more explanation than that, which I'm only too happy to provide.

Still, I recommend Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time as a must buy. Prince of Persia has blown me away, and it will blow you away too. If you own a GameCube, you need to own Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

On the GameCube version, you could unlock the original Prince of Persia and there is an interesting “making of feature. I found the original Prince of Persia fun, but I actually found the mini-documentary even better. This game was very well done, to say the least. With superb gameplay aided with very interesting storyline, you probably won’t stop until you see the ending. This game will probably be even better if you liked (or loved) the original Prince of Persia. If you can forget about the annoying battles, you will enjoy this near perfect title.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a great game. There are very few faults with the game. Ubisoft have made an excellent game here, all adventure fans will love this game. The Sands of Time could possibly be the best adventure game of 2003.

The Gamecube version is here. I've been keeping with Prince of Persia's development for a while now since the game looked great. I had the chance to play through the handheld game recently, and it was quite good. I had high expectations for the console editions, and luckily, they have been fulfilled.

I hate to sound like just another voice in the chorus of praise for Ubisoft’s latest game, but there’s just no other way to sing it. This is one of the finest 3rd-person adventures you will experience and it is a welcome addition to the Prince of Persia lineage.

Gaming Target
To put it simply, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is one very solid game. Not only does it carry on the Prince of Persia name with dignity and respect, but it also elaborates on many aspects of the series. Bringing the Prince of Persia franchise to today’s current consoles not only provides younger players a chance to play a great series, but also gives older fans a chance to relive their childhood memories, all via today’s robust technology. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is one of the best games currently available for the GameCube, and also one of the best games released in the past few years, period. Go out and pick it up now, and forever live with joy.

Digital Entertainment News (den)
The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is an excellent adventure well worth undertaking. In a sea of unoriginality it is a bastion of ingenuity that will beckon gamers back time and again despite a slight blemish or two on its otherwise smooth exterior. Previous experience with the series is not necessary at all, since the story is not connected to the other games at all, other than sharing a Prince as the protagonist. No matter what genre is your bag, you should enjoy this one and it is highly recommended.

So, what will happen to this ongoing tale of Arabian adventure? After such a long run on the gaming scene, Prince of Persia is still going strong with its latest rendition. This game is very well balanced package. It has an emotionally driven storyline, an intriguing hero, plenty of headache-inducing platform puzzles to figure out, and some of the best graphics and audio that we’ve on the Gamecube to this date. It’s a godsend for all of those Gamecube owners who are platformer fanatics, giving them another option besides a few other lackluster games of the genre. For all of you that are seeking a challenge and great adventure, give Prince of Persia a go.

You still reading this? Rush out and purchase this game now! Not only does Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time feature the original game as an unlockable, it truly is one of the most amazing games this side of Christmas. It is so good that I have already listed it as one of my games of the year but for those with Xbox and Gamecube consoles, you will be dreadfully disappointed to hear that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is exclusive to PlayStation 2 and only available next year on other console platforms.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time is by far the best platformer this year. Period. End of discussion. If you disagree, you’re wrong. Sands of Time embodies everything the Prince is and should have been in previous games, and is the best of the series. Combining a strong combat system, smooth graphics, and wonderful dexterity puzzles, Prince of Persia should be in everyone’s library. Even if you don’t have a GameCube, you can still get the PS2, Xbox or even PC versions of the game (though I hear the PC version isn’t worth your time unless you have a good game pad…in which case you’d be better off with a console version). Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is well worth the purchase price.

Besides a couple of camera issues every now and then and the game’s short length I can’t say a lot of bad things about this game. The gameplay is solid and easy to learn, the controls are intuitive, it has a wonderful atmosphere thanks to the fine art and music and, above all, stays true to its roots. Prince of Persia: Sand of Times is without a doubt one of the best 3D platformers of its generation.

If pretty graphics and fluid animation are your thing, then look no further - despite looking almost identical to the PS2 version, this update of a 16-Bit classic is undoubtedly one of best looking games on Gamecube - and I mean bar none. But Prince of Persia the Sands of Time ain't just a pretty face - there's a heck of an adventure involved too!

Just as BG&E (also from Ubi Soft) gave you a 'side-kick' for your quest, there is also someone to help you along in Prince of Persia. Named Farah she is a survivor of your unintended mass 'turn everyone into zombies spree' and needless to say is a bit annoyed about the whole situation. Bizarrely, she opts to help you out on your adventure and is certainly of use in some situations. She also helps to bring more of a plot to the title. It all moves along thanks to conversations dotted about the games profession that slowly feed you information and very in-depth background to just what has been going on.

No previous experience with the Prince of Persia series is required to enjoy Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. In fact, virtually nothing will bar you from being impressed by this extremely well-put-together action adventure game from the studio that brought you Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six 3. In stark contrast to Ubisoft Montreal's previous offerings, Prince of Persia is surprisingly easy, despite the incredible acts of skill and daring that the game's main character will routinely perform during the course of the game. As a result, this original, visually stunning game can be highly recommended to just about anyone.

So overall, should you still buy this game considering that the sequel is coming soon? I think you should more ask yourself if you are willing to pass on one of the best game experiences of this generation or not. It doesn't cost much and even though it doesn't last more than 6 to 10 hours, the puzzles are so well done and this game looks so good that you'll want to go through it at least one more time when you are done with the main quest. There is also the original Prince of Persia available as an unlockable for the more nostalgic gamers. Go buy it, it's worth your money and you'll be more trained for the sequel!

Is this a game you should own? I would say that it is one of the finest action games I’ve ever played, although the ending was a bit anticlimactic. It’s not too short, but also doesn’t go long enough to wear out its welcome, so to speak. Most players will probably finish it in 13 hours or so. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is definitely worth at least a rental, if not a purchase, for those who like adventure games.

But don?t let these little problems discourage you. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is still plenty of fun. Magic time daggers, evil sand zombies and of course yours truly performing my own stunts is something to behold. I might have had a rough couple of years there, but it?s good to be the prince again.

One title almost guaranteed to bring a tear to the eye of any older gamer when mentioned is Prince of Persia. Originally released in the 16-bit machine era, it was a tight combination of puzzles, traps, frequent death and fighting, all against a time limit. It is also remembered for the fact that the two subsequent sequels were never quite in the same league. Now Jordan Mechner, along with the talents Ubisoft have at their disposal, has brought the franchise back to the life on the latest console platforms.

GameSpy
Whichever one you get, you can be assured of a great game. To be honest, I never expected to see another major Prince of Persia game released, much less a good one. But here we are in the tail end of 2003 and that's exactly what we're faced with. While the combat's a bit bland and the challenge could stand to be higher, the fact remains that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a wonderful rebirth of a classic franchise. To answer the obvious headline, this prince is no pauper.
