Rally Championship

Racing games on the Cube are really too few and far between. There's no excuse for the lack of wheel-to-wheel offerings from anyone on the Fun Machine part 2. Rally Championship does have its shortcomings, but it also has its pluses. The most important aspect of the game, its gameplay, was solid and felt just about right. Although the environments can be sparse in areas they're overall pretty nice to look at as you tear through the gears in each course. It has a lot of potential if and when a sequel rolls around, but this isn't a Colin McRae, that's for sure.

Even with a few high-profile contenders like the Colin McRae series, Rally Championship is living in a niche market. For the devoted, there are a good handful of pleasing qualities, but it's unlikely that anyone who's been wowed by Colin will make the switch. It's true to the sport, which means those looking for faster or more exciting races should go elsewhere. The real letdown is that there's not enough for the initiate or potential fan. Rally Championship simply doesn't stack up against competition like Colin McRae, particularly in the graphics department. It's a great sport, with a lot of subtle and demanding facets, but this only glosses the surface.

Pour ce titre qui fait partie des premiers jeux de rallye sur Gamecube, on peut dire qu'on est rudement dépité. Que ce soit d'un point de vue esthétique ou au niveau du gameplay, Rally Championship peinera à convaincre l'amateur de rallye qui sommeille en vous. Vivement l'arrivée de Colin McRae qui, jusqu'ici, nous a rarement déçus tous supports confondus.

Très axé arcade, Rally Championship ne fait qu’assurer l’intérim de jeux plus attendus comme par exemple V-Rally 3. Signalons tout de même que les joueurs novices ou qui ne cherchent pas forcément une simulation ultra-poussée peuvent trouver là un jeu parfait pour s’initier au monde du dérapage contrôlé avec un bémol pour les épreuves de nuit tout de même et beaucoup de compassion dans le domaine sonore.

It's disappointing that despite the proliferation of rally games on other consoles, so few have actually made it onto the GameCube, and none of them have been particularly outstanding. If you've been waiting for a great rally racing game to come to the GameCube, keep waiting, because Rally Championship isn't it.
