"Nintendo Winter 2002" promotional booklet:

When Mario arrives on tropical Isle Delfino, the once-pristine island is polluted and plastered with graffiti. Even worse, he's being blamed for the mess!

Now Mario has to clean up the place and track down the real culprit. Luckily, his new multipurpose water pack FLUDD lets him spray goop away and hover over danger. This little invention even has Rocket and Turbo nozzles, and Mario will have to master each of them if he hopes to best the hosts of humongous enemies overrunning the island.

Come along on Mario's first adventure on the Nintendo GameCube as he scales soaring cliffs, wall-jumps up perilous passageways and even tiptoes along tightropes as he tours the island, Mario-style. He won't have to go it alone, either--his old pal Yoshi will show up to lend a tongue if the going gets rough!

No one messes with Mario's vacation! Super Mario Sunshine for Nintendo GameCube is Mario's biggest, most amazing adventure ever.

When Mario, Peach and an entourage of her loyal Toad friends set out for a tropical vacation on lovely Isle Delfino, they're in store for much more than a relaxing holiday. A mustachioed maniac has mucked up the entire island, and Mario is accused of committing the crime. Armed with a hi-tech water cannon called FLUDD (Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device), Mario sets out to clean the island, clear his name, and solve the mystery of the villainous vandal.

    Features

    • Explore expansive worlds crawling with interactive characters and tough challenges for Mario to accomplish.
    • Use FLUDD to clean up sludge pools, attack enemies, hover through the air and more. Special nozzle attachments scattered throughout the island provide even more ways for FLUDD to come in handy.
    • Ride on Mario's trusty pal Yoshi and gobble up fruit located throughout the island. While riding Yoshi, Mario has even more special moves and abilities.
    • Collect 120 Shine Sprites on your quest to help Mario restore peace to Isle Delfino!

Like Super Mario 64, Mario has many things to accomplish in each area of Isle Delfino. Every time Mario completes a task, he is rewarded with a Shine Sprite. Mario's missions include battling giant Piranha Plants, navigating treacherous platform challenges, solving mysteries, collecting Blue Coins, and many more. As Mario collects Shine Sprites, new areas of Isle Delfino are unlocked. This is Mario's biggest challenge ever!

Luckily, Mario isn't alone. Princess Peach and her entourage of Toads aren't much help, but the island's natural population of Yoshis sure are! Mario can ride multi-colored Yoshis throughout the island, using their tongue-slurping strength to accomplish various tasks. Other familiar characters make cameos throughout the game, along with a wide variety of all-new characters.

Bottom Line Super Mario Sunshine is a must-play. Classic Mario action, exciting new moves and surprises galore will keep you clutching your controller for months to come.

Seeking well-deserved rest and relaxation, Mario and Princess Peach travel to a beautiful remote island. It is said the local citizens are friendly and the weather forecast suggests year-round sunshine. However, when they get to the island, they quickly find out that the peaceful paradise has been polluted by a mysterious stranger. Worse still, the individual bears a striking resemblance to Mario! Determined to clear his reputation and clean up the island, Mario sets off on his greatest adventure yet.
