Ooh ooh! It's Monkey Ball time!
Aren't you glad you have opposable thumbs?Butter 'em up, because Sega's simians are on a roll! With more party
games than ever and a new story mode to explore, Super Monkey Ball 2 is
revving up on the Nintendo GameCube.
When the first Super Monkey
Ball game rolled onto the scene, it shocked Nintendo GameCube owners
with its addictively simple gameplay. Encased in transparent orbs, cute
little monkeys need you to help them stay on track and reach their goal.
This minimal approach to gaming yielded monumental fun and now the
sequel is ready for your banana-grabbing fun.
Story Mode
The Story Mode, with more than 150 new stages, replaces the Main Game from the
original. The evil Dr. Bad-Boon has stolen all the bananas from Jungle
Island. Now the four returning characters, AiAi, MeeMee, GonGon and
Baby, have set out to retrieve the fruity stash.
Each stage of
puzzling action offers a unique challenge. You will traverse narrow
passages and twisty surfaces; bounce off switches and bumpers; and roll
over countless slopes and conveyors. Overall, the stages seem more
dynamic and varied than in the original.
Super Monkey Ball 2 is
quite challenging--maybe even more so than the original. Fortunately, a
couple clever design choices help cut down on the headaches. First,
there is no life count, so you can attempt a stage over and over
indefinitely without penalty. Experimentation is an important tool you
can use to combat the tough levels. Second, the stages are separated
into 10 worlds, and you can play the stages within a world in any order.
So, if you are stumped by one particular stage you can move on and come
back later.
Minigames Galore
One to four players
can compete, cooperate and collide in 12 incredible party games and
minigames. These include six returning favorites that have been revamped
and six all new minigames that are sure to please a crowd of players and
anxious onlookers.
Games that return with a face-lift are:
Monkey Race: This monkey-themed racer features power-ups and projectile
weapons as well as new courses. You can have as many as four
human-controlled and four computer-controlled monkeys.
Monkey
Fight: Equipped with thrusting punching gloves, gamers and their friends
attempt to knock each other off a floating platform as power-ups fall
from the sky. Power struggles become even trickier due to crumbling
platforms and other interactive elements.
Monkey Target: Take
turns launching off a ramp and dive-bombing various targets for points.
Once airborne, players can unlatch their ball and use the two halves as
wings, banking and gliding with ease. The addition of many bananas makes
it easier to rack up big points.
Monkey Billiards: With simple
controls and a dynamic camera system, gamers can enjoy a surprisingly
realistic simulation of genuine pool. Monkey Billiards now includes six
new variations including eight ball, rotation and more.
Monkey
Bowling: Players set the angle, velocity and even the spin of the ball
as they go 10 frames in a quest for the perfect game. Monkey Bowling is
now filled with a variety of different lanes, including curved, waved
and more.
Monkey Golf: Hit the links in an 18-hole course. You
can now use a full set of clubs for drives, approach shots and putting.
Remember to watch the wind.
The completely new minigames are:
Monkey Shot: This rail shooter has you blasting bugs, cyber monkeys and cranky
sea creatures with a simian six-shooter. The action is intense, with
continuous waves of enemies and huge boss battles.
Monkey Boat:
Row, row, row your Monkey down the treacherous rapids. It's a race to
the finish with as many as four human-controlled opponents.
Monkey Baseball: The pitcher in this game of baseball rolls himself
across home plate. You can vary your speed and direction while the other
player swings for the fences. Base running and fielding are
CPU-controlled.
Monkey Tennis: Play a singles or doubles match in
what may be the most addictive of the new minigames.
Monkey
Soccer: Your simian squad tries to score goals by kicking a soccer ball
back and forth. Why wouldn't monkeys participate in the world's most
popular sport?
Monkey Dogfight: This airborne battle challenges
monkeys to shoot each other out of the sky. The controls are
challenging, but the end result is much comic mischief. Hey, if Snoopy
could be a World War I fighter ace, why can't a monkey?
Super
Monkey Ball 2 is packed with new features for playing solo or with
friends. The all-new story mode gives even more personality to the
lovable monkeys, and the huge list of minigames is quite impressive.
Even with updated graphics and sound, the simple yet addictive game play
shines through.
Super Monkey Ball 2 is in stores now and has been
rated "E" (Everyone) by the independent Entertainment Software Rating
Board. Progress is saved to a Memory Card (not included). For a sharper
and clearer image, select the Progressive Scan option when playing on a
TV set that supports that feature.
