GameCube version

Great, but could have been better.

The Good
You're greeted by 3D Tom & Jerry heads, the way many of the classic shorts did with 2D heads. The game has wonderfully colorful graphics. They give you 9 characters total to choose from (7 are locked initially). The characters actually look they're supposed to. The difficulty setting allows for kids as well as adults to play this game without it being too easy or too hard. The Big band/jazz soundtrack is reminiscent of the 1940's when most Tom & Jerry shorts were made.

The Bad
They didn't put the Tom & Jerry theme song! What were they thinking? I brought the game home, stuck it into my GameCube and fired it up thinking I'd get to hear the Tom & Jerry theme song, but no dice. The voice acting was newly done. It would have been much better if they had used archived sounds from the classic Tom & Jerry shorts but I guess that might have been messy for timing of events, such as a character getting their butt set on fire and running around screaming for a short time.

The Bottom Line
A great "bargain bin" game in the style of Super Smash Brothers. While it's rated "Teen" it's pretty kid friendly. There's no blood or gore. Just classic comic mischief that can be found in Tom & Jerry cartoons. Being flattened into a round disc, having objects smashed on you, fruits and vegetables flung at you, being hit by lightening, having your tush set on fire, etc. While it has a few faults, it's overall a great game for the price.
