Splinter Cell Chaos Theory takes the stealth FPS to the next level. It is obvious that Ubi Soft put a lot of time and effort into every aspect of this game and it shows at every level. For me it is very rare to give a game top marks in every category, but in the case of SC Chaos Theory it is well deserved, and I knew it from the moment I started playing the first mission, and I was never disappointed from start to finish.

Overall, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory won't disappoint fans of the series and newcomers alike - it is very similar (almost disappointingly similar) to the previous games, but the new alterations and additions (cooperative mode) and sheer perfection of the formula make this a difficult game to pass up. While the cooperative modes online are more than enough of an incentive to buy this game, it would phase me that any fan of action or stealth games would miss out on this title.

Game Chronicles
Overall, the experience of playing Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is akin to reading a good spy thriller or watching a good spy movie. It's involving, at times surprising, and vastly entertaining throughout. The tight controls, the amazingly large skill set that Sam has, and the carefully woven tale of double-crossing and high-tech terrorism all combine to make this game one of the best spy-fiction titles available anywhere. And graphical polish to spare just makes the whole package even better.

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory just didn’t improve its gorgeous visual style but it also gives us one genuinely enjoyable stealth-action game for the GameCube. Compared to the Xbox version it might have cut the corners here and there in the level design, but we’re still looking at a game with a great story, even greater visuals, a much-appreciated Co-op mode and Cube exclusives. Really, if you don’t own a Xbox this is still a game you should really consider buying right away.

The PS2 version took somewhat of a beating in the port process, but still managed to end up with a pretty decent overall game. The GameCube version adds yet another setback on top of what's in the PS2 version: no versus mode altogether. This wasn't unexpected given that the GameCube isn't an online-friendly console, but this missing feature limits the overall package a bit. Beyond that, this version holds up comparably to the PS2 game.

It's not often that a series not only improves visually, but also adds new gameplay elements that keep each installment fresh. The original Splinter Cell introduced a new stealth action hero in the form of Sam Fisher. The game looked and played great, but what really stood out was the potential for a successful franchise. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory delivers on this promise with improved controls, graphics, and a new co-op missions. Chaos Theory will wow you with its visuals and technical bravado, and continues to dominate the stealth-action genre on GameCube.

Worth Playing
For a GameCube fan with little else to play, picking up Chaos Theory might be a great idea, as long as multiplayer sessions aren't needed. The missions are tough enough to keep players busy for weeks, and while there are a few flaws (shrunken levels) that are hard to ignore, none of it detracts from the experience enough to truly bring down the value of the game - except, of course, for the missing head-to-head modes, which could have extended the replay value of the game to a few months, not just weeks. Nonetheless, if you can't play the game on another console, it's still a great buy.

I normally wouldn't care about changing people's view of a franchise or a genre, but this game should be enjoyed by every type of gamer. You can play it however you'd like: stealthily or aggressively, smartly or stupidly, alone or with friends. It's worth checking out, even if you just want to see the most impressive graphics of this console generation. The team from Montreal has shown us that they can deliver the goods. They've also given us a glimpse into the future of gaming, and it's looking brighter than ever.

GameSpot
The design of Splinter Cell Chaos Theory's campaign fulfills a lot of the previously untapped potential of its predecessors' single-player portions, and the game's multiplayer options are certainly intriguing. On paper, it has to be the most fully featured stealth action game to date, so if you like the idea of high-tech espionage, it's going to be appealing. The game's different ingredients do seem as if they were cobbled together, though, and Chaos Theory ultimately could have benefited from a greater sense of cohesion. And the many, many sacrifices made to the GameCube version mean that it just can't be recommended in good conscience, despite being a decent game if considered in a vacuum.

Nintendo Difference
