INTRODUCTIONThere have been many generations of special warriors chosen to carry the mystic mantle of Turok, and their stories are told wherever grateful people gather to honor their heroes. This adventure, Turok:Evolution, concerns one of the greatest of them all, Tal'Set, leader of the Saquim nation.About to enter battle against Captain Bruckner, a brutal butcher and vengeful veteran of many Indian campaigns, Tal'Set is ready to confront this most hated of enemies, when both are mysteriously plucked out of their world and into the simmering swirl of vicious plans that await in an ancient place...There are sinister stirrings in the Lost Land, disturbing rumbles of a coming reign of unquenchable raging fury. It falls to Tal'Set to explore a wide range of terrain, and triumph in each; to battle in the air, in steaming jungles and beneath the rippling water.If he is wise and swift and cunning, if he is courageous and agile and bold, he may yet emerge victorious and show all who follow the meaning of the name... Turok.

The velociraptors are hungry. Very hungry.
Throughout its evolution, the Turok series has given gamers a heaping helping of intense action with a way-cool dinosaur theme. Now, Turok Evolution brings the series to the Nintendo GameCube with a first-person adventure that could be the biggest dinosaur-hunting safari yet.
When Turok: Dinosaur Hunter debuted way back in 1997, also known as 5 B.C. (Before Cube), it was one of the first big third-party hits on the newly-launched N64. The developers at Iguana (now Acclaim Studios Austin) amply demonstrated their resourcefulness by drenching primeval jungles in mists from which predators might leap at any moment. By this deft move they converted fog, then considered a programming trick for hiding the dreaded "pop-up" effect, into a sinister source of hair-curling creepiness. Subsequent games wandered from Turok's rumble-in-the-rainforest roots, so it's refreshing to see that Turok Evolution returns to the game play element we loved and cherished, i.e. making dinosaurs extinct.
The story actually precedes the events of the other Turok games, setting up the momentous events that sent the progenitor of the Turok lineage hurtling through time and space to his first encounter with the Lost Lands.
At game's beginning, we see Tal'Set fighting his nemesis, Capt. Tobias Bruckner, in 1886 Texas. During the battle, Tal'Set is suddenly hurtled through a rift between the Old West and the Lost Lands.
The grievously wounded Tal'Set is nursed back to health by the natives of the River Village, who are hiding from the Lost Lands' greatest threat: Lord Tyrannus and his reptilian hordes. Tal'Set becomes a reluctant leader of the resistance. To his horror, Tal'Set discovers that Tyrannus' new general is none other than the detested Bruckner, who was also swept into the Lost Lands.
No brainless shooter, Turok Evolution demands intuition, strategy and stealth on the part of gamers. Acclaim Studios Austin has developed a brand-new game engine tuned for the power of the Nintendo GameCube that brings 32 different enemies to terrifying life.
These prehistoric enemies will often display startling levels of intelligence, thanks to the Squad Dynamics System (S.D.S.), which creates cold-blooded baddies who will work together. You will see tribal warriors take a strategic position to pummel you, then craftily surrender. The ever-wary dinosaurs will even react to environmental changes.
The epic action unfolds across sweeping meadows, primitive villages, dense jungles and soaring mountains. The environments breathe with realistic touches, ranging from the subtle (shrubs that sway as a dinosaur tromps by) to those effecting game play (you can blast rock spires to send them crashing down on foes). The always-innovative Turok arsenal of weapons features favorites from the past and a few smashing additions. A total of 30 weapons include:
* Sniper Pistol
* Swarm Bore
* Rocket Launcher
* Flame Thrower
* Baby Nuke
The nifty Gravity Disruptor that allows you to send a beam of energy that lifts enemies into the air and tosses them about. Betcha they didn't have that back in the Stone Age. Additional weapons await your discovery.
More than 3,000 Dolby Pro Logic II-enhanced sound effects make the Turok universe come to life. You'll hear foliage rustle as you brush by, helpless dinosaurs crying out as they fall to an unseen predator, and all sorts of explosions and blasts.
All-new flying levels help to break-up the first-person action. In these levels you mount a giant Quetzalcoatlus and blast enemies on the ground and in the air. Cinema sequences propel the action and explain the mission that lies ahead.
As many as four players can wreak simultaneous mayhem in 14 different multiplayer modes. Staples like Deathmatch and Capture the Flag modes are in place as well as some variations like Single Flag and Turok Fight, which gives each player only a Bow and Warclub.
There is also Blood Bath mode that fully loads each player with health and ammo for some insane firefights and a mode called Beginner DM that automatically adjusts for the skill level of each player. In flight mode, you can even have a split-screen dogfight with a buddy.
Turok Evolution is an engrossing first-person shooter with good graphics, more modes than meat-eaters in a Triassic rainforest and tons of dinosaurs. Fans of the genre will certainly enjoy this fine title.
Turok Evolution has been rated "M" (Mature) by the independent Entertainment Software Rating Board. Progress is saved to a Memory Card (not included).
