Ultimate Spider-Man

Ultimate Spider-Man has a singular style that catapults it beyond your average, run-of-the-mill action title. Its graphics are really quite astounding in the way they so closely resemble a comic book. Both the exaggeration and the unrealistically unified style of a comic are here in full force. High production values in voice work and sound effects don't hurt this game a bit, either. Just remember that its gameplay really isn't quite as blow-you-away impressive as Spider-Man 2's was, even with the added fun of playing Venom - although it does come close.

Spider-Man has seen more videogame iterations than any other comic-book character -- and not all of them have been good. Last year's Spider-Man 2, based off the hit film, perfectly captured the thrill of swinging through Manhattan , while completely botching the story missions. The mistakes of the past have been addressed in Ultimate Spider-Man, a fitting name for one of the coolest comic-book videogames ever made.

Ultimate Spider-Man ist genau das richtige Spiel für zockende Spider-Man-Fans. Der Charme des Comics kommt gut rüber und das Spielprinzip macht Laune. Durch die Möglichkeit die Stadt frei zu erkunden kann man sich richtig wie Spider-Man fühlen und zufällig auftretende Überfälle noch rechtzeitig verhindern. Einziger Haken bei der Sache ist, dass das Spielprinzip eigentlich schon in der Versoftung des zweiten Spider-Man-Movies vorhanden war, also eine richtige Neuerung abgesehen von der Story fehlt. Wer diesen Titel jedoch nicht gespielt hat, etwas für Spider-Man übrig hat und sich mit der Cel-Shading-Grafik (die ich persönlich sehr begrüße) abfinden kann, der bekommt mit diesem Titel ein tolles Spiel geliefert. Doch auch Nicht-Spider-Man-Fans, sollten dem Titel eine Chance geben und es probespielen, wenn möglich. Es ist doch auch mal was Anderes, nicht immer nur als Böser in der freien Stadt von Queens/NY herumstreunen zu dürfen ;-)

Ultimate Spider-Man is a fairly short game, as well. You can easily beat it over the course of a couple days. The action is fun, but a couple of the vagaries of gameplay kill that. This is a case of an otherwise high-quality game being hindered by a few iffy additions that wreck the whole experience. It's a good game, to be sure, and an excellent representation of both the Spider-Man character and comics, but it falls a bit short of classic status.

I would recommend Ultimate Spider-Man to any comic book reader with one gentle reminder: even great comic characters like Spidey have dark moments. Anyone else remember the Scarlet Spider?

Leider haben mich die holprigen Cut-Scene-Schnitte und die teilweise verkorkste deutsche Synchronisation etwas enttäuscht. Spielerisch gibt es bis auf ein paar Design-Mängel nichts zu meckern. Manhattan und Queens laden gerade durch die coole Schwing-Physik zu längeren Entdeckungstouren ein. Der Titel hat zwar viel Charme, allerdings hätte man mit etwas mehr Feintuning noch mehr herausholen können - auch was die Wertung angeht.

It's a strange situation when one of the weakest elements of a game -- in Spider-Man 2's case, the story -- can massively improve in a follow-up, and yet the overall quality of the games can remain roughly the same, but that's exactly what's happened here. It's a shame Ultimate Spider-Man isn't a bit longer and that the web-swinging isn't quite as fun anymore, but this is the most polished Spider-Man game yet and something no fan of the series should be without.

Besides from a few minor issues (the camera angle, building details and the city being limited) Ultimate Spider-Man is a good game that should please most gamers. Anything having the name “ultimate” in the title usually always falls flat somewhere. Ultimate Spider-Man has been a success in the comic book market because it’s a new telling of the Spider-Man legacy that is a quality product. The videogame version is a good product that comes close in matching the ultimate legacy that is Spider-Man.

If you exclude Venom from the game, Ultimate Spider-Man would be that much better. Despite its flaws, Ultimate Spider-Man is definitely something worth picking up. If you haven't played Spider-Man 2, it should please on all Spider-Man fronts. All the changes made from last year's Spidey title aren't necessarily for the better, but they do make sense, and there are a few treats in store for fans of Spider-Man. This is definitely one of the better comic-based games out there.`

Ultimate Spider-Man is a better game than Treyarch's previous efforts, but it still relies too heavily on the novelty of swinging around the city and beating up the same bad guys over and over again--a novelty made less so by the simplification of both mechanics. It's especially distressing because the developer was clearly able to put together a solid story and some great boss fights, yet was unable to cull together enough of them to make a great game. All told, Ultimate Spider-Man would serve as a worthwhile rental for any comic fan, but only the most vehement of webheads ought to consider it for purchase.

Décidément, Spider-Man est un super-héros bien souple. Courbant l'échine face à des problèmes de gameplay, à un système de progression perfectible et à un fond assez limité, il parvient tout de même à se relever sans heurt. Un miracle découlant d'une atmosphère immersive, d'une jouabilité intuitive et impressionnante de liberté ainsi que d'un découpage graphique innovant. En bref, le titre d'Activision est une production véritablement honnête, ludiquement correcte, qui divertit agréablement. Et c'est bien tout ce qu'on lui demande à la réflexion. Et une toile pour la deux, une !
