The adamantium laced Mr. Furious of the X-Men heads out on his own to seek a cure for a disease that may just kill him
He's the most popular Canadian since Celine Dion (high praise indeed), has his own on-going, solo comic and has ladies fainting away at Hugh Jackman's cinematic portrayal of him. Logan, AKA Wolverine, is one of the longest serving X-Men and a perennial favourite amongst comic readers and film-goers alike, so it should come as little surprise that he has now got his own PS2 title. X-Men: Wolverine's Revenge follows the side-burned one from his creation as Weapon X in the 1960's through to the present day. Here he realises his nefarious Canadian creators have built in to his DNA a fail-safe disease should he go AWOL, and guess what? Time is running out. So it's off to the world of mounties and Maple syrup as Logan searches for a cure and maybe just a little payback.
The game is a popular blend of third-person, combat-heavy adventure and stealth 'em up. As a powerful mutant, you can call upon all your superpowers to help you cut through the opposition. Firstly, your healing factor allows you to regenerate all damage over time as long as your claws are sheathed. Talking of claws, these can be 'popped' at any point, allowing you to slice through guards, fences and doors in a series of razor-sharp combos. And lastly your feral senses come in very handy should you need to track or forewarn yourself of enemies.
Your mutant senses are the most unique feature of Wolverine's Revenge. A swift button press allows Logan to focus his keen abilities of sight and smell to see things normal humans cannot. Indication of guards' passing is evidenced by the heat of their footprints and hidden enemies can be literally sniffed out as you can 'see' their scent on the breeze. Utilise your sneaking stealth abilities - wall creep, crouched walk, etc. - to approach unseen and remove the threat via a suitably six-bladed stealth kill.
X-fans have been crying out for an opportunity to experience - albeit virtually - Wolverine's adamantium fury for themselves. Take the popularity of the character, comics and Mr. Jackman's bare pectorals and mix in the game's feral senses, sneaky stealth and mutant mashing combat and Wolverine's Revenge starts looking pretty X-citing.
- Call upon all of Wolverine's abilities - Healing factor, adamantium skeleton, retractable claws and feral senses
- Careful balance of deadly combat and stealthy suspense
- Featuring Logan's X-friends - Beast, Colossus and Prof. X - and X-villains - Sabertooth, Wendigo, Juggernaut, Omega Red and Magneto
- Professor X voiced by Patrick Stewart, Logan voiced by Mark Hamill

Exclusive Nintendo GameCube screens and movies.
Comin' at ya this spring is the double whammy of movie sequel X2 and Activision's companion game X2 Wolverine's Revenge.
Not your typical movie-based game, Wolverine's Revenge focuses on the adamantium one's history. Penned by comic-book veteran Larry Hama, whose non-X credits include Batman and all issues of Marvel's G.I. Joe series, the game begins by telescoping back to a snowbound military base in 1968. Wolverine is dosed with the mysterious Shiva virus, which is guaranteed to kill him within 48 hours unless he can find the antivirus.
The action doesn't let up through six missions and 23 levels, including battles with Juggernaut and Magneto. Mark Hamill voices Wolverine. Patrick Stewart (who's such a Tetris freak that he has a special pocket for his Game Boy sewn into his costumes), as Professor Charles Xavier, telepaths voice-over tips.
Stealth and Fighting
UK developer Genepool shakes up action-game conventions with a stealth mode and an unusual combo engine.
In stealth mode, the world takes on a yellowish cast that's comparable to the green night-vision modes in other games. Wolverine moves cautiously, tracking enemies' scent trails (indicated by green clouds) and thermal footsteps. He can detect land mines and other hidden objects. He can also creep slowly with his back to a wall, then wheel around a corner to unleash a sudden stealth strike.
When the screen flashes Strike!, press a combo of X and B buttons to execute nasty finishers. Intriguingly, Wolverine's exact moves are determined by where he's standing in relationship to his assailants.
In many areas, you can proceed by stealth or brute force, resulting in two unique game experiences.
Wolverine, Heal Thyself
By tapping Z, you extend Wolverine's adamantine claws. Retract them as soon as a fight ends, though, or else his health can't regenerate. You'll find the occasional health power-up, but self-healing is really the way to go.
Wolverine's Revenge even has an RPG-like experience building-feature. Successful stealth strikes earn you dog tags that will eventually bump up Wolverine's combat ability.
Wolverine also has a rage meter that builds as he takes hits. Eventually, you can double-tap Z to launch a super-ferocious feral rage attack.
Bonus materials include a jukebox of music tracks, a gallery of character sketches and replayable boss battles. Find comic books throughout the game to unlock other secrets, usually new Wolverine uniforms.
A terrific, fully orchestrated soundtrack -- no cheesy synthesizer music here -- relentlessly propels the action forward.
