With the already small variety of puzzle-action games out there, finding a quality Frogger-type adventure is difficult. Finding a quality puzzle-action game that not only is good, but also great is even rarer. Zapper flaunts its plot, action, design, gameplay, graphics, soundtrack, and replayability all at above average levels at the least. If you’re into action-puzzle games, Zapper is definitely the game for you. If you aren’t or don’t know, you should at least give it a try, you may be surprised.

In fact, Zapper comes through as a great surprise, stacked against Puzzle games we knew we'd be getting, like Super Bust-A-Move and Monkey Ball. Compared just to those two, Zapper offers much more of a Platformer feeling, which should help bring both the action-oriented gamers and the folks with the big brains together. It looks fresh, plays great and has lots of extras calculated to keep you up until the wee hours trying to figure out how to get that last shiny orb...

Finding a solid game for young kids can be very tricky, but Zapper is one that should rank high with its target group. It’s gameplay is simplistic while still offering challenges and rewards that will keep kids interested beyond the Story mode.

Overall, Zapper will probably cater to you platformer gurus out there. It does provide a little bit of a different layout than your typical Pac Man World or Ty the Tasmanian Tiger game, but the overall length for you single players who are just looking to get to the end of the game may wind up causing a short lived experience. Fans of older 80’s titles like Freeway or Frogger may also find this one to be a good time as well, just due to some similarities in control. Regardless, I would still recommend a rental first … just in case.

Gaming Target
At the end of the day, Zapper becomes a forgettable experience that relies on mindless fun, if that’s what you would call it. While it’s true that you could do much worse than Zapper, the game is merely a rental and nothing more.

All in all, this is a very generic game with nothing to offer except a bit of aggravation. Zapper isn’t the worst game out on the system, but I most certainly wouldn’t recommend it. Without a pretty face for the gameplay to hide behind, Zapper’s mere existence is baffling.

If you're new to 3D gaming, have a high tolerance for trial and error style play, and really have nothing better to do with your time, this one might interest you as you peruse the local Blockbuster. Otherwise, just pretend to smile and be happy should you unwrap a gift from Grandma this holiday season and find Zapper's pudgy face smiling right back at you.

As you’ve guessed by now, I’m going to suggest that you either rent Zapper or avoid it. It’s an average game at best, and while I always applaud any effort for the GameCube, I would rather see companies like Infogrames support quality efforts like Dirt To Daytona or bring one of Paradigm’s titles to the GameCube.
